The Second Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup women's volleyball was held in Japan at 14 to 23 November 1997. Points are accumulated during the whole tournament, and the final standing is determined by the total points gained. Yelena Mikhailovna Godina (russian: Елена Михайловна Година) (born 17 September 1977, in Sverdlovsk) is a Russian volleyball player, who was a member of the national team that won the gold medal at 2006 Volleyball World Championship in Japan and the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. FIVB Volleyball Women's World Grand Champions Cup
The FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup is an international volleyball competition contested by the senior men's and women's national teams of the members of ' (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The tournament was created in 1993 after radical changes made on the biggest tournaments organised by the FIVB. The main goal was not to have a single year without two high-profile world-level volleyball competitions, alongside the pre-existing men's and women's world championship, men's and women's world cup and the volleyball tournament at the Olympic Games which are all quadrennial and the annual men's and women's Nations League. The World Grand Champions Cup is therefore played quadrennially the year after the Olympic Games and is always hosted by the Japan Volleyball Association. Taismary Agüero Leiva (born March 5, 1977) is a Cuban-born Italian volleyball player. She is the only player to represent two women's volleyball national team to win Major titles (1995 FIVB World Cup, 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, 1998 FIVB World Championship, 1999 FIVB World Cup and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games for Cuba; 2007 FIVB World Cup for Italy). Regla Maritza Bell MacKenzie (July 6, 1970 in Havana) is a volleyball player from Cuba who won the gold medal three times at the Olympic Games from 1992–2000, and the World Championship in 1998 with the Cuban national team. Career She won three gold medals in a row at the Summer Olympics, in 1992, 1996 and 2000. She won two gold medals in a row at the FIVB Women's World Championships, in 1994, and 1998. She also won four gold medals in a row at the FIVB Women's World Cup, in 1989, 1991, 1995, and 1999. Nikolay Vasilyevich Karpol (russian: Николай Васильевич Карполь; 1 May 1938) is a Soviet and Russian women's volleyball coach. Natalya Safronova
Natalya Safronova (born 6 February 1979, in Krasnoyarsk), is a volleyball player from Russia. During her time playing with the Russian club Zarechie Odintsovo, she won the "Best Attacker" award at the 2006–07 CEV Cup. On 3 December 2009 she collapsed during training after suffering a stroke. She was in coma for 18 days and only regained her speech a year after the incident took place. She continues to recover from the stroke with her volleyball career likely to be over.
