1997 Big East Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1997 Big East men's basketball tournament took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Its winner received the Big East Conference's automatic bid to the 1997 NCAA tournament. It is a single-elimination tournament with four rounds and the three highest seeds received byes in the first round. All 13 Big East teams were invited to participate. Boston College and Villanova finished with the best record in the regular season. After tie-breakers, Villanova was awarded the top seed. Boston College defeated Villanova in the final, 70–58 to earn its first Big East tournament championship. Future NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb participated in the tournament as a reserve forward for Syracuse. Madison Square Garden
Madison Square Garden, colloquially known as The Garden or by its initials MSG, is a multi-purpose indoor arena in New York City. It is located in Midtown Manhattan between Seventh and Eighth avenues from 31st to 33rd Street, above Pennsylvania Station. Duane Woodward
Duane Woodward (born June 4, 1976) is an American former professional basketball player and assistant coach for the Rhode Island Rams. He played most of his career overseas. Playing career A four-year starter at Boston College from 1994 to 1998, Woodward was a member of the 1996 and 1997 Eagles team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. In 1997, Boston College captured Big East regular season and tournament titles and Woodward was named to the Big East All-Tournament team that winter. He capped his collegiate career by earning Second Team All-Big East honors in 1998 when he averaged 15.6 points, 5.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game. Alvin Leon Williams Jr. (born August 6, 1974) is an American retired professional basketball player who played for Villanova University and in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1997 to 2007. College career Williams graduated from Germantown Academy in 1993 where he was in the same graduating class as Bradley Cooper. Timothy Mark Thomas (born February 26, 1977) is an American former professional basketball player who played thirteen seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Victor Martin Page (born February 19, 1975) is an American former basketball player who once played for the Georgetown University Georgetown Hoyas, Hoyas and Sioux Falls Skyforce.
