Western Hockey League
The Western Hockey League (WHL) is a major junior ice hockey league based in Western Canada and the Northwestern United States. The WHL is one of three leagues that constitutes the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) as the highest level of junior hockey in Canada. Teams play for the Ed Chynoweth Cup, with the winner moving on to play for the Memorial Cup, Canada's national junior championship. WHL teams have won the Memorial Cup 19 times since the league became eligible to compete for the trophy. Many players have been drafted from WHL teams, and have found success at various levels of professional hockey, including the National Hockey League (NHL). Kamloops Blazers
The Kamloops Blazers are a junior ice hockey team in the Western Hockey League (WHL). The team plays in the B.C. Division of the Western Conference, is based out of Kamloops, British Columbia, and play home games at Sandman Centre. The Blazers originated as the Estevan Bruins in 1966, became the New Westminster Bruins in 1971, and relocated to Kamloops in 1981 as the Kamloops Junior Oilers. The Blazers have won the Memorial Cup three times; in 1992, 1994, and 1995, and the Ed Chynoweth Cup six times. Brent Belecki
Brent Belecki (born December 22, 1977 in Calgary, Alberta) is a former professional ice hockey goaltender who played in the Western Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League, Central Hockey League, United Hockey League, and American Hockey League. Brian Elder (ice Hockey)
Brian Elder is a former Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives, having represented the 96th House District which includes Bay City, Essexville, Bangor, Frankenlust, Hampton, Kawkawlin, Merritt, Monitor and Portsmouth townships in Bay County. Joshua Derek Adam Holden (born January 18, 1978) is a former Canadian professional ice hockey centre who is currently the assistant Coach for EV Zug of the National League (NL) in Switzerland. He was drafted in the first round, 12th overall, by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Holden was born in Calgary, Alberta. Brett McLean (born August 14, 1978) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played in the National Hockey League for the Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche and the Florida Panthers. McLean is currently serving as head coach of the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL). Patrick Denis Marleau (born September 15, 1979) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward. With 1,779 NHL games played, he is the all-time leader in games played in league history. Byron Ritchie (born April 24, 1977) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward. He was born in Burnaby, British Columbia, and grew up in North Delta, British Columbia. Ritchie saw action in a total of 332 games in the NHL and also played in Sweden, Switzerland and Belarus. Playing career As a youth, Ritchie played in the 1990 and 1991 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments with a minor ice hockey team from North Delta.
