1996 Wimbledon Championships – Women's Doubles
Jana Novotná and Arantxa Sánchez Vicario were the defending champions but lost in the quarterfinals to Martina Hingis and Helena Suková. Hingis and Suková defeated Meredith McGrath and Larisa Neiland in the final, 5–7, 7–5, 6–1 to win the ladies' doubles tennis title at the 1996 Wimbledon Championships. At 15 Years 282 Days, Hingis became the youngest ever grand slam champion. It was the 1st Grand Slam (doubles) title and the 2nd title overall for Hingis, and the 9th and final Grand Slam doubles title and the 64th title overall for Suková, in their respective careers. Martina Hingis (, sk, Martina Hingisová; 30 September 1980) is a Swiss former professional tennis player. Hingis is the first Swiss player, male or female, to win a major title and attain a world No. 1 ranking. She spent a total of 209 weeks as the singles world No. 1 and 90 weeks as doubles world No. 1, holding both No. 1 rankings simultaneously for 29 weeks. Mariaan De Swardt
Mariaan de Swardt (born 18 March 1971) is a former professional tennis player from South Africa, who was active from 1988 to 2001. She twice represented her native country at the Summer Olympics, in 1992 and 1996, and was a member of the South Africa Fed Cup team in 1992 and from 1994 to 1997. In 2006, de Swardt became a U.S. citizen. De Swardt won two Grand Slam titles in mixed-doubles competition, the 1999 Australian Open and the 2000 French Open with partner David Adams. Nicole Bradtke (née Provis) (born 22 September 1969) is a retired professional tennis player from Australia. Bradtke won three singles and nine doubles titles on the WTA Tour. Linda Harvey Wild (born February 11, 1971) is a retired tennis player from the United States. Born as Linda Harvey, she later used the family name of her stepfather and coach Steve Wild. Elizabeth Smylie (née Sayers, born 11 April 1963), sometimes known as Liz Smylie, is a retired Australian tennis player. During her career, she won four Grand Slam titles, one of them in women's doubles and three in mixed doubles. She also won three singles titles and 36 doubles titles on the tour. Career Smylie turned professional in 1982. She won the women's doubles title at Wimbledon in 1985 with Kathy Jordan. Sandrine Testud (born 3 April 1972) is a former professional tennis player from France. Career Testud broke into top 20 singles rankings in July 1997. On February 7, 2000, she became the sixth Frenchwoman after Françoise Dürr, Mary Pierce, Nathalie Tauziat, Amélie Mauresmo and Julie Halard to break into the top 10 in the singles rankings.
