The 1996 Salem Open Beijing and the Nokia Open were tennis tournaments. The men's tournament was played on indoor carpet courts while the women's tournament was played on indoor hard courts. Kazue Takuma (born 4 August 1974) is a Japanese former professional tennis player. Gary Muller (born 27 December 1964) is a former professional South African tennis player. Muller turned pro in 1985. His 12-year career included wins over Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Michael Chang and Stefan Edberg. Muller's best singles result at a Grand Slam was reaching the third round in the 1987 Australian Open in which he lost to Miloslav Mečíř of Czechoslovakia. Patrik Kühnen (born 11 February 1966) is a German former professional tennis player, who turned professional in 1985. Kühnen had his biggest career singles win in the fourth round at Wimbledon in 1988 when he beat Jimmy Connors en route to the quarterfinals in which he lost to eventual champion Stefan Edberg. Chen Li (born 13 March 1971) is a former professional tennis player from China. Career Chen, who comes from the city of Xiangtan in Hunan, played on the WTA Tour in the 1990s and won one title, the doubles at the 1994 China Open, with Li Fang as her partner. John Edward Barrett, (born 17 April 1931) is a former tennis player, television commentator and author. He was born in Mill Hill, North West London, the son of Alfred Edward Barrett, a leaf tobacco merchant, and Margaret Helen Barrett (née Walker). Gregory Rusedski (born 6 September 1973) is a British and Canadian former tennis player. He was the British No. 1 in 1997, 1999 and 2006, and reached the ATP ranking of world No. 4 for periods from 6 October 1997 to 12 October 1997 and from 25 May 1998 to 21 June 1998.
