The 1996 Copa Libertadores Final was a Two-legged tie, two-legged football match-up to determine the Copa Libertadores 1996, 1996 Copa Libertadores champion. It was contested by Argentine club Club Atlético River Plate, River Plate and Colombian club América de Cali. The first leg was played at Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero, Pascual Guerrero Stadium in Cali, while the second leg was held in Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti, Estadio Monumental of Buenos Aires. Copa Libertadores 1996
The 1996 edition of Copa Libertadores was the 37th in the tournament's history. Twenty-one teams participated in the competition. Club Atlético River Plate, River Plate, of Argentina, won the tournament for their second time. The tournament began on March 13 and ended on June 26. Antony William de Ávila Charris (born December 21, 1962) is a Colombian former soccer striker nicknamed ''El Pitufo'' ("The Smurf"), who last played for América de Cali. Club career De Ávila began his career with América de Cali in his native Colombia in 1982. He spent the majority of his career with the club, winning seven league titles with América, including five in a row from 1982 to 1986. His 25 goals for América in the 1990 season led all scorers in the Colombian top flight. Ariel Arnaldo Ortega (born 4 March 1974) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. His nickname is "El Burrito" (''The Little Donkey''), thus he is called "Burrito Ortega". Matías Jesús Almeyda (; born 21 December 1973) is an Argentine professional football manager and former player who is the current manager of Greek Super League club AEK Athens. Marcelo Alejandro Escudero (born 25 July 1972 in Punta Alta) is a retired Argentine football midfielder. Escudero started his career with Sporting Punta Alta in the South Bahia Blanca regional League of Argentine football. Shortly afterwards, he was transferred to Newell's Old Boys in 1992. Ricardo Altamirano
Ricardo Daniel Altamirano (born 12 December 1965) is a former Argentina international footballer who played as a defender. Altamirano signed as a youth player in 1982 at Unión de Santa Fe, he made his breakthrough into the first team in 1986, but left the club shortly after their relegation from the Argentine Primera in 1988. Altamirano joined Club Atlético Independiente in 1988, he was part of the squad that won the 1988–89 championship. Altamirano received his first call-up to the Argentina national team in 1991. Germán Adrián Ramón Burgos (; born 16 April 1969), nicknamed El Mono Burgos (), is an Argentine retired professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper, currently a manager.
