During the 1995–96 English football season, Chelsea competed in the Premier League. Season summary The big news at Chelsea at the start of the 1995–96 season was the arrival of Manchester United striker Mark Hughes, one of the most accomplished strikers of the last decade in the English leagues, and the arrival of Dutch superstar Ruud Gullit. Chelsea had a mid-table Premiership campaign in 1995–96, finishing 11th for the third time in four seasons, but once again they enjoyed a good cup run. This time they reached the FA Cup semi-finals, taking on Manchester United, who had beaten them in the final two years earlier. Chelsea took an early lead, but lost 2–1 and with it went their hopes of a foray into Europe. The 1995–96 season was the 116th season of competitive football in England. Overview Premiership Newcastle United were at one stage twelve points clear of Manchester United at the top of the table, but Alex Ferguson's relatively young and inexperienced side overhauled them during the second half of the season to win the title. Manchester United were England's entrants for the Champions League, while Newcastle United were joined in the UEFA Cup by Liverpool, the League Cup winners Aston Villa and Arsenal. The teams relegated were Manchester City, Queens Park Rangers and Bolton Wanderers. Division One Sunderland and Derby County returned to the Premiership after a five-year exile, joined by Division One play-off winners Leicester City. Dennis Wise
Dennis Frank Wise (born 16 December 1966) is an English former professional football player and manager who played as a central midfielder. He is the president of Serie B side Como 1907. He is best known for having spent the majority of his career at Chelsea, from 1990 to 2001. Beginning his career at Wimbledon, Wise came to prominence as a member of the " Crazy Gang", and in 1988, was part of the team that won the FA Cup in an upset victory over Liverpool. In 1990, he joined Chelsea, becoming captain three years later under the stewardship of Glenn Hoddle. During his time at Stamford Bridge, Wise won two FA Cups, a League Cup and a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, and is the club's second most successful captain, behind John Terry. Andy Myers
Andrew John Myers (born 3 November 1973) is an English football coach and former professional footballer who is a loan player technical coach at Premier League club Chelsea. As a player, he was a defender notably in the Premier League with Chelsea and Bradford City. He also played in the Football League for Colchester United, Brentford and Portsmouth. He was capped by England at youth level. Since retirement, Myers has worked as a coach and returned to Chelsea in 2015 as a youth coach. Michael Wayne Duberry (born 14 October 1975) is an English former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. He started his career with Premier League side Chelsea, and also played in the top flight for Leeds United and Reading, and in the Scottish Premier League for St Johnstone. David John Lee (born 26 November 1969) is an English football coach and former professional player. Lee played as a defender from 1988 until 2004, notably played in the Premier League for Chelsea and in the Australian top flight for Parramatta Power. Daniel Vasile Petrescu (; born 22 December 1967) is a Romanian football manager and former player, who is currently in charge of Liga I club CFR Cluj. Roberto Di Matteo (; born 29 May 1970) is an Italian professional football manager and former player. During his playing career as a midfielder, he played for Swiss clubs Schaffhausen, Zürich and Aarau before joining Lazio of Italy and Chelsea of England.
