1995 World Championships In Athletics – Women's 1500 Metres
These are the results of the Women's 1500 metres event at the 1995 World Championships in Athletics in Gothenburg, Sweden. Gone were the Chinese sensations of two years earlier, not a single representative in this field, their only distance running representative in these championships incapable of making a final. The start of the final was aggressive but slow as a lot of elbows were flying as athletes maneuvered for position at a slow pace. 1991 champion and Olympic champion Hassiba Boulmerka wanted to go into her customary second spot but found it difficult to find a leader. After 200 meters, Yvonne Mai-Graham ran around the crowd to self nominate herself into the lead, followed by Boulmerka. The leaders remained in that position for a kilometer, with the chasers right behind jockeying for position. Coming in to the final lap, Kelly Holmes had positioned herself in third place. 1995 World Championships In Athletics
The 5th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations, were held at the Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg, Sweden on 5–13 August 1995. This edition featured 1804 athletes from 191 nations. This competition saw the women run the 5000 m event at the World Championships for the first time. The race replaced the 3000 m event which had been run at all previous World Championships. Ruth Wysocki
Ruth Wysocki (born March 8, 1957 in Alhambra, California) is an American middle distance runner who specialized in the 800 meters and 1500 metres. Wysocki began track competition in age-group races in the late 1960s, and continued her track career over a period of about 30 years, until she became a Masters (over-40) runner in 1997. Wysocki was a standout performer in the 800 m at Azusa High School in Azusa, California, winning the California State championship at 440 y and 880 y. Running for Citrus College as Ruth Caldwell, she won the CCCAA California State Cross Country Championships in both 1977 and 1978. Later in those seasons, she won the 1978-9 championships at both 800 meters and 1500 meters. Her victories at the Southern California Championships remain the records in both those events.
