1995 World Championships In Athletics – Men's 800 Metres
These are the official results of the Men's 800 metres event at the 1995 IAAF World Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden. There were a total number of 49 participating athletes, with two semi-finals, and seven qualifying heats and the final held on Tuesday August 8, 1995. The final pared down to 8runners who believed in their kick. Vebjørn Rodal became the leader with Wilson Kipketer at the end of the field. Rodal led through an easy pace 52.53 through the first lap. 800 Metres
The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m. Lahlou finished seventh in 4 x 400 metres relay at the 1991 World Championships, together with teammates Abdelali Kasbane, Ali Dahane and Bouchaib Belkaid. Atle Douglas (born 9 June 1968 in Oxford, England) is a retired Norwegian middle-distance runner who specialized in the 800 metres. He represented BFG Fana, SK Vidar, Bergen FIK, IL Gular and IL Norna-Salhus during his active career. He finished eighth at the 1994 European Championships. He also competed at the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics as well as the World Championships in 1993 and 1995 without reaching the finals.
