Joaquim Cruz
Joaquim Carvalho Cruz (born March 12, 1963) is a Brazilian former middle-distance runner, winner of the 800 meters at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He is one of only five men to run the 800 metres in less than 1 minute, 42 seconds. Biography Cruz was born in Taguatinga, Distrito Federal. The son of a steel worker, he began running as a 13-year-old, and showed great promise as a junior. At the age of 15 his personal best over 800 m stood at 1:51 min. After setting a junior world record of 1:44.3 min in 1981, he received a scholarship for the University of Oregon in 1983. The move immediately paid off, and Cruz won the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championships over 800 m that same year. He also competed in the inaugural World Championships in 1983, winning the bronze. Inaldo Justino de Sena (born 18 June 1971) is a Brazilian former male track and field sprinter who specialised in the 400 metres. He represented his country at the World Championships in Athletics in 1995 and took a bronze medal at the 1994 IAAF World Cup. He won two gold and four silver medals at the Ibero-American Championships in Athletics during his career. Regionally, he was a three-time South American junior champion and went on to win two individual silver medals at the senior South American Championships in Athletics. He was a three-time Brazilian sprint champion. His personal best of 45.02 seconds was set in 1994. Career Sena had a highly successful junior career, starting with a 400 m gold at the 1986 South American Youth Championships in Athletics. Sanderlei Claro Parrela (born October 7, 1974 in Santos) is a former Brazilian sprinter. Career With a personal best of 44.29 seconds he is the South American record holder at 400 metres.
