1994–95 OPJHL Season
The 1994–95 OPJHL season is the second season of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League (OPJHL). The nine teams of the East Division competed in a 48-game schedule, while the eight teams of the West Division played a 49-game schedule. The top 8 teams of each division make the playoffs. The winner of the OPJHL playoffs, the Brampton Capitals, won the 1996 Buckland Cup but failed to win the Dudley Hewitt Cup as Central Canadian champions. Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League
The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) is a Junior A ice hockey league in Ontario, Canada. It is under the supervision of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) and the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). The league was listed as the 7th best developmental league in North America for professional and amateur ice hockey in July 2013 by the website, "TheHockeyWriters.com". The league dates back to 1954 where it began as the "Central Junior B Hockey League". In 1993, the Central Junior B Hockey League was promoted to the Junior A level and renamed the "Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League". In 2009, the league was dissolved by the Ontario Hockey Association and split into two leagues: the "Central Canadian Hockey League" and the "Ontario Junior A Hockey League". By early 2010, the two leagues merged to reform the Ontario Junior Hockey League. Streetsville Derbys
The Streetsville Derbys were a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Streetsville, Ontario, Canada. They were a part of the Ontario Junior Hockey League in 2011 until they merged into the Cobourg Cougars. As of 2018 the Streetsville Hockey League have revived the Derbys name for their “Select” and house league divisions. History The Derbys began in 1967 as part of the Suburban Jr. C league. In 1970, they joined the new Mid-Ontario Jr. B league, and the following season the team joined the Central Jr. B league. The team was briefly renamed the Mississauga Derbys for the 1992-93 season. Streetsville claimed the Central Junior "B" Championship in 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1983, 1984 and 1986, as well as the 1979 Sutherland Cup as All-Ontario Champions. MetJHL
The Metro Junior "A" Hockey League was a junior level ice hockey league based out of Southern Ontario. The league originated in 1956 as the Metro Junior "B" Hockey League, which lasted until 1991, when it changed its designation from Junior B to Junior A. It remained a Jr. A league from 1991 until 1998 when it was absorbed by the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League. History The teams that formed the Metropolitan league played in the ''Big Six Junior B'' league in 1950 until 1953, when a new, nine-member OHA Jr.B league was formed. Caledon Canadians
The Caledon Canadians are a defunct Junior "A" ice hockey team from Caledon, Ontario, Canada. They were a part of the Metro Junior A Hockey League and were the only team in the "Metro" to win an Ontario Hockey Association Junior "A" Championship. History The Canadians took the place of the old Caledon Flyers. The Flyers played in Caledon from 1976 until 1990 in the Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League. In 1990, the team folded but after two seasons the Central Junior B Hockey League granted the town a new team. The Thunder Bay Flyers were a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. History On July 6, 1980, the Degagne Buccaneers and Thunder Bay North Stars were informed by the TBAHA that they would not be permitted to field teams in the 1980–81 City League. On July 10, 1980, the executive of the Thunder Bay Kings was formed and gave life to the city's premier junior squad for the next twenty years. From 1980 until 1982, the Kings played in the Thunder Bay Hockey League with the Allan Cup-contending Senior "A" Thunder Bay Twins, the Hardy Cup-contending Intermediate "A" Thunder Bay Blazers, and the Canadian Interuniversity Athletics Union's Lakehead University Nor'westers. Hamilton Kiltys
The Markham Royals are a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Markham, Ontario, Markham, Ontario, Canada. They are a part of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. From 1973 until 2015, the team operated in Hamilton, Ontario as the Kilty's and the Red Wings. History Hamilton Red Wings/Kilty B's 1973-2015 The Red Wings were founded in 1973 as the second Hamilton-based team in the Niagara District Junior B Hockey League. After one season, the league divided into two leagues and the Red Wings went the way of the Golden Horseshoe Junior Hockey League. In 1975-76, the other Hamilton team joined the Southern Ontario Junior A Hockey League and became the Hamilton Mountain A's. Royal York Rangers
The Vaughan Vipers were a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. They were a part of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. History In 1991, the expansion Royal York Rangers joined the Central Jr. B league, which became the Ontario Provincial league. In 1996, the team moved to become the Vaughan Vipers. In the first season in 1996-97, the Vipers failed to make the playoffs and were the fourth-worst team. After managing only 7 wins out of a 51-game schedule, the Vipers finished with only 18 points, and the Vipers finished out of playoff contention for the third-consecutive year. The 1999-00 season would bring changes, and the Vipers produced talent with some local players, who were discarded from major junior hockey, especially the Ontario Hockey League. Milton Merchants
The Brantford 99ers are a Junior ice hockey#Junior A, Junior A ice hockey team from Brantford, Ontario, Canada. They are a part of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. The 99ers have previously been known as the Milton Icehawks, Milton Merchants, Milton Flyers, and Milton Steamers as Milton hosted junior hockey from 1966 to 2018. After purchasing the team, Darren DeDobbelaer of Brantford moved the club to that city for the start of the 2018-19 season, re-branding the team as the 99ers. Newmarket 87's
The Newmarket Hurricanes were a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Newmarket, Ontario. They played in the Ontario Junior Hockey League. The franchise existed from 1972 until 2019, based in Newmarket starting in 1975. History In 1972, the Seneca Flyers became a part of the OPJHL. In 1975, they bought out the Newmarket Redmen of the Mid-Ontario Junior B Hockey League and moved to become the Newmarket Flyers. The Redmen dated back to the 1920s and were at one point a top level Junior "C" team. Although the official story is that the Hurricanes got their start in the late 1980s as the Newmarket 87's, the franchise that spawned this team existed long before it. In 1986, the Newmarket Flyers folded. The OHA Junior "A" league was on rocky footing in the late 1980s and was no longer cost efficient for most member teams. Georgetown Raiders
The Georgetown Raiders are a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Georgetown, Ontario, Canada. They are a part of the Ontario Junior A Hockey League. The team began play in the Central Ontario Jr. B league and was known as the "Georgetown Gemini" until 1988. The Raiders won the 2005 Dudley Hewitt Cup. History The Georgetown Gemini were founded in 1975 as members of the Central Junior B Hockey League. They were the first junior club in Georgetown since the Jr. C Raiders folded in 1969. The name "Georgetown Raiders" used to belong to a different team that competed in OHA Senior A and Intermediate A ranks in the 1970s and 1980s. The two clubs are not known to be connected.
