Air France Flight 8969 was an Air France flight that was hijacked on 24 December 1994 by the Armed Islamic Group of Algeria (GIA) at Houari Boumediene Airport, Algiers. The terrorists murdered three passengers and their intention was either to blow up the plane over the Eiffel Tower in Paris or crash the plane into it. Aymeric Jean Louis Gérard Alphonse Laporte (born 27 May 1994) is a professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for club Manchester City and the Spain national team. He previously played for Basconia and Athletic Bilbao. Abdoulaye Touré (c. 1920 – July 1985) was a politician in the first Guinean republic. He was arrested after a coup in April 1984, and was executed in July 1985. Early life Abdoulaye Touré was born in Kankan on December 16 around 1920, the grandson of Samori Touré (c. 1830 - 1900), the founder of the Wassoulou Empire. He was trained as a physician, serving in Mali and in Kankan in the 1950s. Career He became an active member of the Democratic Party of Guinea, and was ambassador to Mali in the 1960s. He became Guinea's ambassador to the United Nations in 1970, succeeding Achkar Marof, who had been arrested the year before. On 19 June 1972 he was appointed a Central committee member and Minister of External Trade. On 1 June 1979 he became Minister of External Affairs. The 1994 Tour de France was the 81st edition of the Tour de France, one of cycling's Grand Tours. The Tour began on 2 July with a prologue around the French city Lille. After 21 more days of racing, the Tour came to a close on the street of the Champs-Élysées. Twenty-one teams entered the race that was won by Miguel Induráin of the team.
