1994 Wimbledon Championships – Women's Singles
Conchita Martínez defeated Martina Navratilova in the final, 6–4, 3–6, 6–3 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 1994 Wimbledon Championships. It was her first and only major title. Steffi Graf was the three-time defending champion, but lost in the first round to Lori McNeil, ending her streak of 31 consecutive major quarterfinals, dating back to the 1985 US Open. This also marked the first time in the Open Era that a major defending champion lost in the first round of their title defense. "Conchita" Martínez Bernat (born 16 April 1972) is a Spanish former professional tennis player. She was the first Spaniard to win the women's singles title at The Championships, Wimbledon, Wimbledon, doing so in 1994 Wimbledon Championships – Women's singles, 1994. Martínez also was the runner-up at the 1998 Australian Open – Women's singles, 1998 Australian Open and the 2000 French Open – Women's singles, 2000 French Open. Zina Garrison
Zina Lynna Garrison (born November 16, 1963) is an American former professional tennis player. Garrison was the runner-up in singles at the 1990 Wimbledon Championships, a three-time major mixed doubles champion, and an Olympic gold and bronze medalist from the women's doubles and singles events, respectively, at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Garrison reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 4 on 20 November 1989. Kyōko Nagatsuka ( ja, 長塚京子, born February 22, 1974) is a retired Japanese tennis player. She achieved a career-high ranking of world No. 28 on 14 August 1995. In doubles, she reached as high as No. 31 in June 1995. She won the 12-and-under championships of Japan in 1986, and the under-16 in 1989.
