1994 VFA Season
The 1994 Victorian Football Association season was the 113th season of the Australian rules football competition; and, it was the final season contested under the administration of the Association as an independent body, before control of the competition was ceded to the Victorian State Football League at the end of the year. The premiership was won by the Sandringham Football Club, after it defeated Box Hill Football Club, Box Hill in the Grand Final on 25 September by nine points; it was the fifth premiership won by the club. Premiership season In the home-and-away season, each team played eighteen games; the top five then contested the finals under the McIntyre System#McIntyre final five system, McIntyre Final Five system. Sandringham Football Club
The Sandringham Football Club, nicknamed The Zebras, is an Australian rules football club based in Melbourne which was formed in 1929 and plays in the Victorian Football League (VFL) which was formerly called the Victorian Football Association (VFA). History The Sandringham Football Club was admitted to the VFA competition (now VFL) for the 1929 season, though the first moves to establish a semi-professional football team from the Sandringham region began two years earlier. The club was formed in that time as a three-way merge of the existing amateur clubs in the area, Sandringham Amateurs, Black Rock FC and Hampton Amateurs. The club colours of gold, black and blue were taken from those three local teams respectively. Coburg Football Club
The Coburg Football Club, nicknamed the Coburg Lions, is an Australian rules football club based in Coburg, a northern suburb of Melbourne, and currently playing in the Victorian Football League (VFL). It is based at Coburg City Oval since 1915, which was partly redeveloped in 2020. Coburg has historically been a proud club and has won 6 VFA/VFL premierships with the most recent premiership in 1989. Shaun Smith (Australian Rules Footballer)
Shaun Smith (born 22 June 1969) is a former Australian rules footballer in the VFL/AFL. Originally from the Ainslie Football Club in the Australian Capital Territory, but recruited from Werribee and debuting in the Australian Football League in 1987, Smith is best known for his incredible leap and ability to take spectacular marks or speckies. His high leaping play enabled him to hold down a key position whilst being only 184 cm and is sometimes compared to Russell Robertson. Smith debuted with the North Melbourne Football Club in 1987 and was delisted due to a string of injuries at the end of 1992 after 47 games and 38 goals. Cory Young
Cory Young (born 6 March 1971) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Richmond and West Coast in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). In two seasons at Richmond, Young only managed six games and spent the rest of his time in the reserves. He was drafted by West Coast in 1991 but again struggled to break into the seniors due to injuries. Young made just one appearance, a win over Essendon at Windy Hill mid-season, contributing three disposals and a goal. He infamously disagreed with coach Mick Malthouse's feedback after that game, and was never seen again at the top level. After leaving the AFL he played in the Victorian Football Association. Rino Pretto
Rino Anthony Pretto (born 13 June 1959) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for various clubs in the Victorian Football League, Victorian Football Association (VFA) and with Fitzroy Football Club, Fitzroy in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). After serving his apprenticeship as a full-back in the Fitzroy under-19s and reserves, Pretto finally made his senior debut late in the 1978 VFL season. The game, which took place at VFL Park, was won by Carlton Football Club, Carlton who was celebrating Rod Ashman's 100th game. Peter Bourke (born 23 May 1966) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon and Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Mark Trewella (born 28 June 1966) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy and Richmond in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). Trewella, who was from Doncaster originally, started out at Fitzroy in the Under 19s. He won three reserves best and fairest awards for Fitzroy and was a member of their reserves premiership team in 1989. Tim Livingstone
Tim Livingstone (born 21 September 1967) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Australian Football League (AFL). Playing career Livingstone made two appearances in the 1992 AFL season, late in the year, and played a further six senior games in 1993, also towards the end of the season. He also played football for North Ringwood and Box Hill. In 1995 he won the Frank Johnson Medal for his performance with the VFL's representative team.
