1994 TAAC Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1994 Trans America Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament (now known as the ASUN men's basketball tournament) was held March 3–5 at the UCF Arena in Orlando, Florida. This was the first tournament since 1992 after not being held in 1993. Hosts defeated in the championship game, 70–67, to win their first TAAC/Atlantic Sun men's basketball tournament. The Golden Knights, therefore, received the TAAC's automatic bid to the 1994 NCAA tournament, their first Division I tournament appearance (College of Charleston also participated, receiving an at-large bid). Since the 1992 tournament, one program had departed the TAAC (Georgia Southern, who left for the SoCon) and three new programs were added (Central Florida in 1993, College of Charleston and Florida Atlantic in 1994), leaving total conference membership at ten teams. The Venue At UCF
The Venue at UCF is a sports and entertainment arena located near Orlando, Florida, United States on the main campus of The University of Central Florida in unincorporated Orange County. The arena, which was opened in 1991, housed the Knights men's and women's basketball teams from 1991 to 2007, and has served as home to UCF's volleyball team since 1991. The Venue also serves as a practice facility for the university's basketball teams, and houses administrative offices for the same. Kirk Speraw
Kirk Crittendon Speraw (born August 21, 1956) is an American former basketball coach who was most recently an assistant basketball coach at the University of Iowa. Speraw previously served as the head coach for the men's basketball team at University of Central Florida (UCF) from 1993 to 2010, during which UCF made four appearances in the NCAA tournament. Early life and education Kirk Crittendon Speraw was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa. Before Kirk went to high school, his father Eugene "Bud" Speraw was an assistant basketball coach at Sioux City Central High School. The 1992 Trans America Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament (now known as the ASUN men's basketball tournament) was held March 6–8 at the Hanner Fieldhouse in Statesboro, Georgia. Hosts Georgia Southern defeated in the championship game, 95–82, to win their third TAAC/Atlantic Sun men's basketball tournament. The Eagles, therefore, received the TAAC's automatic bid to the 1992 NCAA tournament. Two teams, Arkansas–Little Rock and Texas–San Antonio, departed the TAAC prior to the season (UALR joined the Sun Belt and UTSA joined the Southland). In turn, the two were replaced by Southeastern Louisiana and Florida International, thus maintaining conference membership at eight teams. The TAAC tournament was not held again until 1994. The ASUN Conference men's basketball tournament (formerly known as the Trans America Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament between 1979 and 2001) is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the ASUN Conference, formerly known as the Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC) and Atlantic Sun Conference. The 1994 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball.
