1994 European Athletics Championships – Women's Triple Jump
The final of the Women's Triple Jump event at the 1994 European Championships in Helsinki, Finland was held on Thursday August 20, 1994. There were a total number of 26 participating athletes including one non-starter, with two qualifying groups. The top twelve and ties, and all those reaching 14.20 metres advanced to the final. The qualification round was held in Wednesday August 19, 1994. The event was included for the first time at the European Athletics Championships. Triple Jump
The triple jump, sometimes referred to as the hop, step and jump or the hop, skip and jump, is a track and field event, similar to the long jump. As a group, the two events are referred to as the "horizontal jumps". The competitor runs down the track and performs a hop, a bound and then a jump into the sand pit. The triple jump was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games and has been a modern Olympics event since the Games' inception in 1896. According to World Athletics rules, "the hop shall be made so that an athlete lands first on the same foot as that from which he has taken off; in the step he shall land on the other foot, from which, subsequently, the jump is performed." Ashia Hansen
Ashia Hansen, (born 5 December 1971) is a retired British triple jumper. Fourth in the 1996 Olympic final, she broke the world indoor record when winning the 1998 European Indoor title, and went on to win gold medals at the World Indoor Championships in 1999 and 2003, at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and 2002, and at the 2002 European Championships. Her British records of 15.15 metres (1997 outdoors) and 15.16 metres (1998 indoors), still stand. Iva Prandzheva
Iva Prandzheva ( bg, Ива Пранджева, born 15 February 1972 in Plovdiv) is a former Bulgarian athlete who was successful in both long jump and triple jump. She had to retire from athletics in 2000 after she was caught doping for the second time and was subsequently banned for life. Her best performance came at the 1995 World Championships where she won a silver medal jumping 15.18 metres, a personal best. The winner of the event, Inessa Kravets, set a new world record (15.50 metres) which still stands. Prandzheva competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics, but failed a blood drug test testing positive to Methandrostenolone and was banned for two years. Petra Lobinger (née Laux; divorced Schneider born 24 January 1967 in Weidenau) is a German retired athlete who specialised in the triple jump. She represented her country at the 1996 Summer Olympics, as well as two World Championships, in 1993 and 1997. Her biggest success is the fifth place at the 1997 World Indoor Championships. Her personal bests in the event are 14.31 metres outdoors (Mainz 1997) and 14.36 metres indoors (Paris 1997).
