Shot Put
The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. History Homer mentions competitions of rock throwing by soldiers during the Siege of Troy but there is no record of any dead weights being thrown in Greek competitions. The first evidence for stone- or weight-throwing events were in the Scottish Highlands, and date back to approximately the first century. In the 16th century King Henry VIII was noted for his prowess in court competitions of weight and hammer throwing. The first events resembling the modern shot put likely occurred in the Middle Ages when soldiers held competitions in which they hurled cannonballs. Svetla Mitkova-Sınırtaş
Svetla Ivanova Mitkova-Sınırtaş ( bg, Светла Иванова Миткова-Sınırtaş; born June 17, 1964, in Medovo, Bulgaria) is a retired athlete who competed in shot put and discus throw. She represented her home country Bulgaria up to 1999, when she gained a Turkish citizenship by marriage. Stephanie Storp
Stephanie Storp (born 28 November 1968 in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony) is a retired female shot putter from Germany. Her best performance was winning the bronze medal at the 1997 World Championships, with a throw of 19.22 metres. She also won the silver medal at the 1993 World Indoor Championships, and represented her country in the Summer Olympics of 1992 and 1996. She ended her athletics career in 1998, having taken up basketball as a new sport. Athletics career As a teenager she won the bronze medal at the 1985 European Junior Championships. Storp represented West Germany, and finished behind two East Germans Bettina Libera and Ilke Wyludda. The next year she won the silver medal at the first edition of the World Junior Championships, again sharing the podium with two East Germans Heike Rohrmann and Ines Wittich. Sui Xinmei (隋新梅, born January 29, 1965) is a Chinese shot putter who won the silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. She also won the 1991 IAAF World Indoor Championships as well as the Asian Games in 1990 and 1994 and the Asian Championships in 1995. Nataša Erjavec (born 15 May 1968) is a retired Slovenian athlete who specialised in the shot put. She represented her country at one indoor and two outdoor World Championships. Vita Pavlysh
Viktoriya Anatoliïvna Pavlysh ( uk, Вікторія Анатопіївна Павпиш; born 15 January 1969 in Kharkov, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union) is a former track and field athlete who specialized in the shot put. Pavlysh was stripped of her 1999 IAAF World Indoor Championships gold medal after she had tested positive for anabolic steroid stanozolol at the event in Maebashi, Japan. She claimed that she may have taken the drug to aid her recovery from injury. For this offence she received a two-year ban. Five years later at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Budapest, Hungary she won the title again only to fail the drug test for the same reason. She was again stripped of her title and banned from athletics for life. Whether because of her drug-use or not, Pavlysh was famed for her very muscular lower body. Connie Price-Smith
Connie Price-Smith (born Constance Marie Price, June 3, 1962) is an American shot putter and discus thrower. Price-Smith is also a four-time Olympian. She graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 1985. Later career Price-Smith was also named to the 2012 Olympic track & field team coach staff in London. On July 21, 2015, she started her tenure as the head coach at the University of Mississippi. She was named women's head coach for the United States team at the 2016 Summer Olympics, again in Rio de Janeiro.
