These are the official results of the Women's 1.500 metres event at the 1993 IAAF World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. There were a total number of 40 participating athletes, with three qualifying heats and the final held on Sunday 1993-08-22. The three Chinese athletes in this race showed their inexperience at this level. Yan Wei looked at the starter while all the other athletes were looking forward at their first step. 1500 Metres
The 1500 metres or 1,500-metre run (typically pronounced 'fifteen-hundred metres') is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately miles. The event is closely associated with its slightly longer cousin, the mile race, from which it derives its nickname "the metric mile". The demands of the race are similar to that of the 800 metres, but with a slightly higher emphasis on aerobic endurance and a slightly lower sprint speed requirement. The 1500 metre race is predominantly aerobic, but anaerobic conditioning is also required. Carla Cristina Paquete Sacramento OIH (born 10 December 1971 in São Sebastião da Pedreira) is a middle distance runner from Portugal. Biography Sacramento won medals at a variety of distances but her speciality is the 1500 m. She won the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in 1997 in Athens after having won a bronze medal in the 1995 championships. Sacramento won her first national title in 1986 when she was only fifteen years old. She and Fernanda Ribeiro both excelled at a national level as young girls and have dominated Portuguese middle and long distance running since. Sacramento has run under 2 minutes for 800 m and 4 minutes for 1500 m many times, both of which marks are thought of as benchmarks of world class running. Lyubov Kremlyova (russian: Любовь Кремлёва; born 21 December 1961) is a Russian former middle- and long-distance runner who competed internationally both for the Soviet Union and Russia. She had her greatest success indoors, winning medals at the 1991 IAAF World Indoor Championships and 1992 European Athletics Indoor Championships. She was stripped of a second World Indoor medal in 1995 after a positive test for steroids. Ravilya Agletdinova
Ravilya Agletdinova (russian: Равиля Аглетдинова; married name Kotovich; 10 February 1960 – 25 June 1999) was a Soviet middle-distance runner who competed in 800 metres, 1500 metres and 3000 metres events. She was the 1500 m gold medallist at the 1986 European Athletics Championships and appeared three times at the World Championships in Athletics, her best finish being fourth in 1983. In lower level competitions, she was the winner of the 1985 European Cup in an unbeaten championship record and took silver medals at the IAAF World Cup, Friendship Games and Goodwill Games. She set her personal best in the women's 1,500 meters 4:08.32 on June 26, 1992, at the US Olympic Trials in New Orleans and in the 800 meters 1:59.72 in 1995.
