1993 US Open – Men's Singles
Pete Sampras defeated Cédric Pioline in the final, 6–4, 6–4, 6–3 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1993 US Open. It was his second US Open title and third major title overall. Stefan Edberg was the two-time defending champion, but lost in the second round to Karel Nováček. Pete Sampras (born August 12, 1971) is an American former professional tennis player. Thomas Muster (born 2 October 1967) is an Austrian former professional tennis player. He was ranked as the List of ATP number 1 ranked singles tennis players, world No. 1 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). Pat Rafter
Patrick Michael Rafter (born 28 December 1972) is an Australian former professional tennis player. He was ranked as the world No. 1 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), and world No. 6 in doubles. Rafter won eleven ATP Tour-level singles titles, including two majors at the 1997 and 1998 US Opens, as well as two Masters titles. He was also the runner-up at Wimbledon in 2000 and 2001. In doubles, Rafter won ten titles, including a major at the 1999 Australian Open partnering Jonas Björkman, and two Masters titles. David Nainkin
David Nainkin (born 20 September 1970) is a former professional tennis player from South Africa. Career Nainkin never reached a final on the ATP Tour but made it into the semi-finals of the 1995 Nokia Open in Beijing, before losing to Michael Chang. He had the best win of his Grand Slam career at the 1996 US Open when he upset countryman and number nine seed Wayne Ferreira 6–4, 6–4, 2–6, 7–5 in the opening round. Jared Eiseley Palmer (born July 2, 1971) is an American former professional tennis player who won 28 professional doubles titles (including his wins at the Australian Open and Wimbledon) and one singles title in his career on the ATP Tour. Mikael Pernfors (; born 16 July 1963) is a former professional tennis player from Sweden. He reached the men's singles final at the French Open in 1986, and won the 1993 Canadian Open in Montreal. Career Pernfors played a topspin-heavy baseline game with a double-handed backhand, like his countrymen Björn Borg and Mats Wilander, but he lacked their consistency and relied on a crowd-pleasing game full of variety, liberally employing the drop shot and the topspin lob. Michael T. Joyce (born February 1, 1973) is an American coach and former tennis player. The right-hander reached his highest ATP singles ranking of World No. 64 in April 1996. Tennis career Juniors Joyce and then-friend Erik Menendez entered the 1989 Boys' Junior National Tennis Championship, shortly before Erik and his brother Lyle murdered their parents. MaliVai "Mal" Washington ( ) (born June 20, 1969) is an American former professional tennis player. Wally Masur (; born 13 May 1963) is a tennis coach, television commentator, and former professional tennis player from Sydney, Australia. He reached the semifinals of the 1987 Australian Open and the 1993 US Open, achieving a career-high singles ranking of world No. 15 in October 1993.
