1993 FINA Short Course World Championships
The 1st Short Course Swimming World Championships were organized by FINA and held in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, December 2–5, 1993. The meet featured competition in a short course (25 meter) pool. During the championships, a total of 12 world records were broken: 10 in the women's events and 2 in men's events, both in relays. China won the most events, ten, all in women's events. Le Jingyi won two individual and three relay events to travel home with five golds; Dai Guohong went home with four golds and one silver. In the men's events, the USA and Australia won three events each. Tripp Schwenk of the USA garnered three golds, winning the two backstroke events and also swimming on the USA's winning medley relay team. Mark Foster (swimmer)
Mark Andrew Foster (born 12 May 1970) is an English former competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain in the Olympics and world championships, and swam for England in the Commonwealth Games. Foster is a former world champion and won multiple medals in international competition during his long career. He competed primarily in butterfly and freestyle at 50 metres. Foster is a specialist short-course (25 metre pool) swimmer. In terms of medals and longevity (1986–2008), he is amongst the most successful British swimmers of all time. Emanuele Merisi
Emanuele Merisi (born 10 October 1972) is an Italian former professional swimmer, specialized in backstroke, who won a bronze medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. Career Merisi was born in Treviglio, province of Bergamo ( Lombardy). He began to swim at the age of 8, becoming a member of the Italian national team in 1989. His first important medal was at the European LC Championships 1993 in Sheffield, where he won a bronze medal in his favourite race, the 200 m backstroke. Dean Kondziolka
Dean Kondziolka (born April 14, 1972) is a Canadian swimmer. He is a 7 Time National Champion and Canadian record holder in the 50 meter sprint and 100 meter freestyle, and is the first Canadian born swimmer to break 23 seconds in the 50 meter freestyle event. Kondziolka began his swimming (sport), swimming career at the Lakeshore Swim Club at the age of 9, shortly thereafter moving to the Mississauga Aquatic Club at age 11. Kondziolka first broke on the national scene in 1986 at the age of 14, making national time standards in the sprint events, 50 and 100 meter freestyle. He was the youngest competitor (by two years) at the 1986 Canadian National Championships in Edmonton. He went on to compete in the Netherlands and Germany as a member of the Junior National Teams in 1987 and 1988. Curtis Myden
Curtis Allen Myden (born December 31, 1973) is a former breaststroke and medley swimmer from Canada, who competed at three consecutive Summer Olympics in 1992, 1996 and 2000. He won a total number of three medals at the Olympics, all of them bronze. Myden was one of Canada's leading swimmers in the 1990s. He was coached by Canadian coach Deryk Snelling. Jonathan Thomas Cleveland (born December 19, 1970) is a former competition swimmer and breaststroke specialist who was born in the United States and competed for Canada at three Summer Olympics, starting in 1988. Gustavo França Borges (born December 2, 1972) is a Brazilian former competitive swimmer. He swam for Brazil in the Summer Olympic Games in: 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004. Borges has won the second-most Olympic medals of any Brazilian, with fourone in 1992, two in 1996 and one in 2000behind sailors Robert Scheidt and Torben Grael. He also has the third-most Pan American Games gold medals of any Brazilian, with eightbehind swimmer Thiago Pereira and table tennis player Hugo Hoyama. Rogério Aoki Romero (born 22 November 1969 in Londrina, Paraná) is a former backstroke swimmer from Brazil, who competed at five consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1988.
