1993 Dutch TT
The 1993 Dutch TT was the seventh round of the 1993 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on 26 June 1993 at the TT Circuit Assen located in Assen, Netherlands. 500 cc race report Honda announces that Shinichi Itoh’s bike is fuel-injected not carburated, and that this is the first time it is being used. Wayne Rainey wants to use a ROC chassis instead of the factory one which was overstiff, but wasn’t allowed to. Mick Doohan on pole where he had his accident the previous year. Kevin Schwantz gets the start from Daryl Beattie and Doohan. Beattie crashes out of third and Mat Mladin’s crashing bike in the same turn sends the marshalls running. Beattie walks away from it. There’s a 3-way fight for 1st between Schwantz, Alex Barros and Doohan. Barros crashes out of the lead, tumbling hard through the furrowed gravel, but is able to walk to the barriers. Wayne Rainey
Wayne Wesley Rainey (born October 23, 1960) is an American former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, he won the 500cc World Championship three times and the Daytona 200 once. He was characterized by his smooth, calculating riding style, and for his intense rivalry with compatriot Kevin Schwantz, between 1987 and 1993. Racing history Rainey began his career racing in the A.M.A. Grand National Championship, a series that encompassed four distinct dirt track disciplines plus road races. In 1981, he finished the Grand National season as the 15th ranked dirt track racer in the country. Following his success in the Novice 250cc roadrace class, Kawasaki hired him to compete in the 1982 AMA Superbike Championship as a teammate to the then defending National Champion Eddie Lawson. John Reynolds (motorcycle Racer)
John Stephen Reynolds (born 27 June 1963) is a British former professional motorcycle racer from Kimberley, Nottinghamshire, England. He won the British Superbike Championship in 1992, 2001 and 2004. Reynolds is an all-time great of BSB with his 37 career wins bettered only by Shane Byrne and Ryuichi Kiyonari. His 117 podiums is 2nd all time behind Byrne, what makes this mark impressive is Reynolds scored this in 202 starts. Making him one of a select few riders to finish on the podium in over half their career starts. His first domestic success led him into the 500 cc World Championship on a Padgetts Harris-Yamaha, taking 8 top-10 finishes over two seasons. Simon Crafar
Simon Crafar (born 15 January 1969 in Waiouru) is a New Zealand former Grand Prix and WSBK motorcycle road racer. His racing career started in 1981 aboard a Suzuki TM75 in a local Junior Motocross Championship before eventually moving onto road racing in 1985. He won Malaysia's Superbike championship in 1991. In 1993 he raced a Harris machine in the 500 cc World Championship before joining the Suzuki factory racing team in the 250 class for the latter part of the season. He did not enjoy this, feeling he was too large for the bikes. World Superbike For 1994 he joined countryman Aaron Slight on a semi-works Rumi Honda RC45 in the Superbike World Championship. Niall Mackenzie
Niall Macfarlane Mackenzie (born 19 July 1961) is a Scottish former professional motorcycle road racer. Career Mackenzie, who hails from Fankerton, near Denny, Stirlingshire; won the British Superbike Championship three times from 1996 to 1998 with the Rob McElnea-run Yamaha team, and the British 250cc and 350cc titles twice earlier in his career. He had a long career in the Grand Prix motorcycle racing circuit, debuting in 1984 in the 250cc class. He moved up to the 500cc class in 1986 on a Suzuki before spells on Honda and Yamaha motorcycles. He was 4th in the championship in 1990, and finished in the top 10 in the championship on five other occasions. John Douglas Chandler (born September 27, 1965) is an American former professional motorcycle racer. He earned a reputation as one of the most versatile racers of the 1980s and 1990s. Chandler is one of only four riders in AMA racing history to win the AMA Grand Slam, representing national wins at a mile, half-mile, short track, TT and road race.
