1992–93 CJAHL Season
The 1992–93 CJAHL season was the 1st and only season of the OHA's Central Junior A Hockey League (CJAHL), a pilot project that would become the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League in 1993. The nine teams of the East Division competed in a 48-game schedule, while the eight teams of the West Division played a 49-game schedule. The top 7 teams of each division make the playoffs. The winner of the CJAHL playoffs, the Barrie Colts, moved on to the OHA Junior B playoffs and won the Sutherland Cup. Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League
The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) is a Junior A ice hockey league in Ontario, Canada. It is under the supervision of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) and the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). The league was listed as the 7th best developmental league in North America for professional and amateur ice hockey in July 2013 by the website, "TheHockeyWriters.com". The league dates back to 1954 where it began as the "Central Junior B Hockey League". In 1993, the Central Junior B Hockey League was promoted to the Junior A level and renamed the "Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League". In 2009, the league was dissolved by the Ontario Hockey Association and split into two leagues: the "Central Canadian Hockey League" and the "Ontario Junior A Hockey League". By early 2010, the two leagues merged to reform the Ontario Junior Hockey League. Kitchener Dutchmen
The Kitchener Dutchmen were a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Mid-Western division of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. History The Kitchener Dutchmen franchise was founded in 1956 when the Junior A Kitchener Canucks were moved to become the Peterborough Petes. With the Canucks gone, the new Kitchener Greenshirts were founded as members of the Central Junior B Hockey League to fill the void left by their Junior A counterparts. The Greenshirts changed their name to the "Ranger B's" in 1969 to better reflect their relationship with their parent club, the Kitchener Rangers who entered the market in 1963. The team started in the Central Junior B league, but as part of the 1971 geographic realignment, moved to the Western Junior B league. Golden Horseshoe Junior Hockey League
The Golden Horseshoe Junior Hockey League (GHL) was a junior ice hockey league in Ontario, Canada, sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Association from 1974 until 2007. In 2007, the league became a division of the newly formed Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League along with the Mid-Western Junior Hockey League and Western Ontario Hockey League. History The year 1974 saw the founding of the Golden Horseshoe Junior B Hockey League. The league consisted mostly of " inner ring" teams from the Niagara District Junior B Hockey League. The " outer ring" teams maintained with the Niagara league. In 1978, the Golden Horseshoe league jumped from six to nine teams by swallowing the majority of the short-lived Southwestern Junior B Hockey League. Hamilton Kilty B's
The Hamilton Kilty B's are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Hamilton, Ontario. They play in the Golden Horseshoe Conference of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. The team was known as the Stoney Creek Warriors prior to 2013 and the Ancaster Avalanche until 2018. History The Stoney Creek Warriors were formed in 1974 as a member of the Niagara & District Junior C Hockey League. As a Junior C team, the Warriors would win four league titles. The Warriors moved up to the Golden Horseshoe Junior B Hockey League in 1994 under the name Spirit. In the Summer of 2013, the team was relocated to Ancaster, Ontario and renamed the Avalanche. On September 7, 2013, hockey officially returned to Ancaster, as the Avalanche hosted the Buffalo Regals in their season opener and defeated them 10–3. Newmarket 87's
The Newmarket Hurricanes were a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Newmarket, Ontario. They played in the Ontario Junior Hockey League. The franchise existed from 1972 until 2019, based in Newmarket starting in 1975. History In 1972, the Seneca Flyers became a part of the OPJHL. In 1975, they bought out the Newmarket Redmen of the Mid-Ontario Junior B Hockey League and moved to become the Newmarket Flyers. The Redmen dated back to the 1920s and were at one point a top level Junior "C" team. Although the official story is that the Hurricanes got their start in the late 1980s as the Newmarket 87's, the franchise that spawned this team existed long before it. In 1986, the Newmarket Flyers folded. The OHA Junior "A" league was on rocky footing in the late 1980s and was no longer cost efficient for most member teams. Ajax Axemen
The Ajax Attack were a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Ajax, Ontario, Ajax, Ontario, Canada. They were a part of the Central Canadian Hockey League. They used to be known as the Axemen. In the Summer of 2010, the Attack merged with the Pickering Panthers and left Ajax. History The team originated as a member of the Central Junior C Hockey League in 1986. In 1991 they made the jump to the Central Junior "B" league, despite limited success in the Central Junior "C" league, and stayed with the league in 1993 when it became the OPJHL. Milton Merchants
The Brantford 99ers are a Junior ice hockey#Junior A, Junior A ice hockey team from Brantford, Ontario, Canada. They are a part of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. The 99ers have previously been known as the Milton Icehawks, Milton Merchants, Milton Flyers, and Milton Steamers as Milton hosted junior hockey from 1966 to 2018. Vaughan Vipers
The Vaughan Vipers were a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. They were a part of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. History In 1991, the expansion Royal York Rangers joined the Central Jr. B league, which became the Ontario Provincial league. In 1996, the team moved to become the Vaughan Vipers. In the first season in 1996-97, the Vipers failed to make the playoffs and were the fourth-worst team. After managing only 7 wins out of a 51-game schedule, the Vipers finished with only 18 points, and the Vipers finished out of playoff contention for the third-consecutive year. The 1999-00 season would bring changes, and the Vipers produced talent with some local players, who were discarded from major junior hockey, especially the Ontario Hockey League. Georgetown Raiders
The Georgetown Raiders are a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Georgetown, Ontario, Canada. They are a part of the Ontario Junior A Hockey League. The team began play in the Central Ontario Jr. B league and was known as the "Georgetown Gemini" until 1988. The Raiders won the 2005 Dudley Hewitt Cup. History The Georgetown Gemini were founded in 1975 as members of the Central Junior B Hockey League. They were the first junior club in Georgetown since the Jr. C Raiders folded in 1969. The name "Georgetown Raiders" used to belong to a different team that competed in OHA Senior A and Intermediate A ranks in the 1970s and 1980s. The two clubs are not known to be connected. Oakville Blades
The Oakville Blades are a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Oakville, Ontario, Canada. They are a part of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. History The Blades started as a Junior C team, and made it to the Clarence Schmalz Cup Final once to compete for the All-Ontario Junior "C" title. In 1969, the Blades lost 4-games-to-3 to the Woodstock Navy-Vets. Oakville moved up to the Junior B level for the 1970-71 season, and joined the Mid-Ontario Junior B league. In 1971, the leagues realigned, and Oakville moved to the new Central Junior B league. In 1975 and 1991 the Blades made it the Sutherland Cup Final for the All-Ontario Junior "B" title. Caledon Canadians
The Caledon Canadians are a defunct Junior "A" ice hockey team from Caledon, Ontario, Canada. They were a part of the Metro Junior A Hockey League and were the only team in the "Metro" to win an Ontario Hockey Association Junior "A" Championship. History The Canadians took the place of the old Caledon Flyers. The Flyers played in Caledon from 1976 until 1990 in the Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League. In 1990, the team folded but after two seasons the Central Junior B Hockey League granted the town a new team. The Canadians spent one season in the Central Junior "B" Hockey League before joining the Metro and one season after with the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League.
