1991–92 Miami Heat Season
The 1991–92 NBA season was the fourth season of the Miami Heat in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Heat had the fifth overall pick in the 1991 NBA draft, and selected Steve Smith out of Michigan State, and hired Kevin Loughery as their new head coach after the resignation of Ron Rothstein prior to the start of season. The Heat got off to a fast start winning seven of their first ten games, but lost 8 of their next 9 games along the way. After holding out most of the 91–92 season only playing in just five games, the Heat traded Sherman Douglas to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Brian Shaw. The team held a 23–25 record at the All-Star break, as Loughery coached the Heat to their first ever playoff appearance in franchise history, as they finished fourth in the Atlantic Division with a 38–44 record, winning a tie-breaker for the #8 seed in the Eastern Conference over the Atlanta Hawks. Kevin Loughery
Kevin Michael "Murph" Loughery (born March 28, 1940) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. Loughery coached both Julius Erving and Michael Jordan, and gave Phil Jackson his first NBA coaching job. Early life Loughery was born on March 28, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York. His father was a police detective. He attended Cardinal Hayes High School in The Bronx, graduating in 1957. In his senior year, Loughery was an All-City player at Cardinal Hayes, and most valuable player in the Bronx Catholic high school tournament, which his team won. College basketball Loughery originally attended Boston College (BC), playing one year of college basketball for the Eagles (1958-59), where he averaged 16.8 points in 19 games. 1992 NBA Playoffs
The 1992 NBA playoffs was the postseason tournament following the National Basketball Association's 1991-92 season. The tournament concluded with the Eastern Conference champion Chicago Bulls defeating the Western Conference champion Portland Trail Blazers 4 games to 2 in the NBA Finals. Michael Jordan was named NBA Finals MVP for the second straight year. The Blazers won their second Western Conference title in the past three years, and third overall in franchise history, behind the leadership of Clyde Drexler. The Jazz made the Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history. They returned in 1994 and 1996 before finally breaking through in 1997. Bimbo Coles
Vernell Eufaye "Bimbo" Coles (born April 22, 1968) is an American former professional basketball player who played 14 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Virginia Tech Hokies and won an Olympic bronze medal as a member of the United States national team in 1988. He received his nickname from a cousin in reference to a country music song of the same name. Coles was a standout at Greenbrier East High School in Lewisburg, West Virginia. Kevin Edwards
Kevin Durell Edwards (born October 30, 1965) is an American former professional basketball player who currently serves as DePaul University men's basketball team's director of community, corporate, and professional relations. Edwards was selected by the Miami Heat with the 20th overall pick of the 1988 NBA draft. Edwards was the second ever draft pick in Miami Heat history, behind teammate Rony Seikaly who was selected as the 9th pick in the same draft. He played in 11 NBA seasons for the Heat, New Jersey Nets, Orlando Magic and Vancouver Grizzlies. Willie Burton
Willie Ricardo Burton (born May 26, 1968) is an American former professional basketball player who was selected by the Miami Heat in the first round (ninth overall pick) in the 1990 NBA draft from the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Rony Seikaly
Ronald Fred Seikaly (born May 10, 1965) is a Lebanese-American former professional basketball player. He was one of the first internationally born players to make an impact on American basketball. Considered one of the top college players from the Syracuse basketball program, Seikaly's stellar offense and defense placed him among the school's all-time leaders in rebounds, points and blocks, while earning several nationally recognized awards and honors. 1991–92 Atlanta Hawks Season
The 1991–92 NBA season was the Hawks' 43rd season in the National Basketball Association, and 24th season in Atlanta. The Hawks received the ninth overall pick in the 1991 NBA draft, and selected Stacey Augmon from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. During the off-season, the team acquired All-Star guard Maurice Cheeks from the New York Knicks, acquired second-year guard Travis Mays from the Sacramento Kings, and acquired Blair Rasmussen from the Denver Nuggets. However, Mays only played just two games due to two ruptured tendons in his right ankle. The Hawks got off to an 8–8 start and played .500 basketball for the first half of the season, holding a 24–23 record at the All-Star break. Brian Keith Shaw (born March 22, 1966) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
