Irish Cup
The Irish Football Association Challenge Cup, commonly referred to as the Irish Cup (currently known as the Samuel Gelston's Whiskey Irish Cup for sponsorship purposes) is the primary football knock-out cup competition in Northern Ireland. Inaugurated in 1881, it is the fourth-oldest national cup competition in the world. Prior to the break-away from the Irish Football Association by clubs from what would become the Irish Free State in 1921, the Irish Cup was the national cup competition for the whole of Ireland. Since 30 November 2021, the cup has been sponsored by ''Samuel Gelston's Irish Whiskey''. It was previously sponsored by Nationwide Building Society, Bass Ireland Ltd, JJB Sports, Tennent's Lager and Sadler's Peaky Blinder. 126 clubs entered the 2018–19 competition. John Dundee
John Wharry Dundee OBE, (born 1921) was an anaesthetist and prolific medical researcher from Ballyclare, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Biography Early life Dundee was born the eldest son of a farmer, near Ballyclare, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He was educated at Ballyclare High School, studied medicine at Queen's University Belfast, and undertook postgraduate studies at Liverpool, Oxford and Philadelphia. He graduated with a PhD from Liverpool University in 1957. Career highlights Dundee founded the Department of Anaesthetics at Queen's University Belfast in 1958. He was appointed Professor of Anaesthetics there in 1964—a post he held until his retirement in 1987. He worked as an anaesthetist in the Royal Victoria Hospital of Belfast, was a Fellow of the Faculty of Anaesthetists of the Royal College of Surgeons, and was Dean of the Faculty of Anaesthetists at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. George Otto Simms
George Otto Simms (4 July 1910 – 15 November 1991) was an archbishop in the Church of Ireland. Early life and education George Otto Simms was born on 4 July 1910 in North Dublin in Ireland to parents John Francis A Simms & Ottilie Sophie Stange both from Lifford, County Donegal, as per his birth Certificate. He also attended the Prior School in Lifford for a time and also attended Cheltenham College, a public school in the United Kingdom. He went on to study at Trinity College Dublin, where in 1930 he was elected a Scholar and graduated with a B.A. in classics in 1932 and a B.D in 1936. He later completed a Ph.D. in 1950. Clerical and scholarly career He became a deacon in 1935 and a priest in 1936, beginning his ministry as a curate at St Bartholomew's, Clyde Road, Dublin under Canon W.C.Simpson. Francis George Blackwood, 10th Baron Dufferin and Claneboye (20 May 1916 – 13 November 1991), known as Sir Francis Blackwood, 7th Baronet, from 1979 until 1988, was a British baronet and a peer in the Peerage of Ireland.
