These are the official results of the Men's Shot Put event at the 1991 IAAF World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. There were a total number of 23 participating athletes, with the final held on Saturday August 31, 1991. Werner Günthör of Switzerland won the competition with a throw of 21.67 metres. The shot put is a track-and-field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical Ball (sports), ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The World Athletics Championships is a biennial event which began in 1983. Organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the World Championships are a competition comprising track and field athletics events available to male and female athletes from any of the IAAF's 213 member federations. Jan Sagedal
Jan Sagedal (born 19 June 1960) is a retired Norwegian shot putter. He represented Froland IL, Sørild FIK and IK Tjalve. Biography He finished fourteenth at the 1984 European Indoor Championships, thirteenth at the 1990 European Indoor Championships, thirteenth at the 1991 IAAF World Indoor Championships and ninth at the 1992 European Indoor Championships. He also competed at the World Championships in 1987 and 1991 without reaching the finals. He became Norwegian champion in 1986 and 1998. His personal best throw was , achieved in June 1986 in Bodø. This would have been a new Norwegian record at the time if not Lars Arvid Nilsen put the shot in Indianapolis the same day. Alessandro Andrei
Alessandro Andrei (born 3 January 1959) is an Italian former shot putter. He was born in Florence. Biography Andrei threw with his right hand, using the glide technique (at time many elite-level shot putters had switched to the spin/rotation style.) Andrei won the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, California. In 1987 he broke the world record three times in the same competition with successive throws of 22.72, 22.84 & 22.91 m (and finishing the sequence with a throw of 22.74 m). Kent Larsson
Kent Erik Larsson (born 10 June 1963) is a retired Swedish athlete who specialised in the shot put. He represented his country at the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics as well as one indoor and three outdoor World Championships. Born in Östersund, he discovered athletics through school competitions and started his career in the club IF Castor. He won his first Swedish championship in 1987, and also set his career best at the Swedish championships of 1992 – but also achieved 20,02 in New York in 1994. Larsson trained with a fellow Östersund man, Henrik Wennberg, and the two also represented the club KA2. Dragan Perić (, born 8 May 1964) is a Serbian shot putter who occasionally competed in the discus throw. He holds the Serbian records in athletics, Serbian records in both events.
