1991 World Championships In Athletics – Men's 110 Metres Hurdles
These are the official results of the Men's 110 metres Hurdles event at the 1991 IAAF World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. There were a total number of 38 participating athletes, with two semi-finals and five qualifying heats and the final held on Thursday August 29, 1991. Summary All the eyes were on 33 year old Greg Foster, who was, as yet, undefeated in World Championship finals. Foster had lane 4 in the center of the track. Missing was the reigning double Olympic Champion and world record holder Roger Kingdom out with an ACL surgery. Next to Foster in lane 5 was the leading qualifier from the semis was Tony Jarrett, who had just edged Foster in that semi. The other semi was significantly slower, won by Jack Pierce. David Nelson (hurdler)
David Lloyd Nelson (born 11 March 1967) is a male English former hurdler who competed in the 110 metres hurdles. Athletics career Nelson won a bronze medal for England, at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, and went on to achieve his career-best time of 13.42 secs in the heats of the 1991 World Championships, to qualify for the semifinals. This performance still ranks him in the UK all-time top ten. He also represented England, at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand. Igors Kazanovs (russian: Игорь Яковлевич Казанов; born September 24, 1963) is a former hurdler. Born in Daugavpils, he represented the Soviet Union and later Latvia. He was a soldier in the Soviet army. In the 110 metres hurdles, he finished fifth in the 1987 World Championship final and sixth in the 1993 World Championship final, having run his personal best of 13.26 seconds in the semifinals. Colin Ray Jackson, (born 18 February 1967) is a Welsh former sprint and hurdling athlete who specialised in the 110 metres hurdles. During a career in which he represented Great Britain and Wales, he won an Olympic silver medal, became world champion twice, World indoor champion once, was undefeated at the European Championships for 12 years and was twice Commonwealth champion. His world record of 12.91 seconds for the 110 m hurdles stood for over 10 years and his 60 metres hurdles world record stood for nearly 27 years. Jackson won his first major medal, a silver, in the 110 m hurdles, aged 19 at the 1986 Commonwealth Games. Florian Schwarthoff (born May 7, 1968 in Dortmund) is a former German hurdler best known for winning a bronze medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Schwarthoff had his best season in 1995 when set a new German record of 13.05 sec. in Bremen. He was expected to compete for a silver or bronze medal at the World Championships in Gothenburg behind the overwhelming favourite Allen Johnson from the United States.
