1991 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship
The 1991 tournament championship game was played at the Carrier Dome in front of 8,293 fans. Tournament overview North Carolina completed a perfect 16 and 0 season by defeating Towson 18-13, to win the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship, the fourth overall for the Tar Heels. Towson, coached by Carl Runk, became the first unseeded team to reach the NCAA Division I lacrosse finals. Towson got as close as 12 to 11 at the start of the 4th quarter, after scoring 5 straight goals. But Carolina controlled the remainder of the game in winning the national title for the first time since 1986. Carrier Dome
The JMA Wireless Dome, originally the Carrier Dome (1980–2022) and colloquially called "The Dome," or more recently "The JMA Dome," is a domed sports stadium in Syracuse, New York. Located on the campus of Syracuse University in the University Hill neighborhood, it is home to the Syracuse Orange football, basketball, and lacrosse teams. In 2006–07, the women's basketball team began playing home games in the Carrier Dome. Darren Lowe (lacrosse)
Darren Lowe was a three-time All-American NCAA lacrosse player at Brown University from 1989 to 1992 who led his team to three straight NCAA tournament quarterfinal appearances. Career Highlights During Lowe's four years at Brown, the team compiled a record of 45 wins and 16 losses, with the 1991 squad compiling a 13 and 1 record. The 1991 team went undefeated during the regular season and received a number two seeding in the NCAA tournament before finally falling to Maryland in the quarterfinals. Brown made the NCAA tournament in three out of Lowe's four seasons, with a tournament record of two wins and three losses. Lowe holds the 5th highest total in NCAA Division I with 316 career points. Charley Toomey
Charley Toomey is an American lacrosse coach. He is currently the head coach for the Loyola Greyhounds men's lacrosse team at Loyola University Maryland. Playing career He played for Loyola as a goalkeeper and helped bring them to the school's first NCAA final in 1990. He also played professionally for both the Baltimore Thunder and the original Boston Blazers, although he only played in three games during the two years he played. Coaching career As head coach of the Loyola Greyhounds, he led the team to win the NCAA D1 lacrosse championship on May 28, 2012, completing the year with an 18 and 1 record. The team's one loss was to Johns Hopkins. Toomey was named the 2012 winner of the F. Morris Touchstone Award as the Division I Coach of the Year. Tom Marechek
Tom "Hollywood" Marechek (born August 25, 1968 in Victoria, British Columbia) is a retired professional lacrosse player. College career Marechek played college lacrosse at Syracuse University where he teamed with Paul and Gary Gait to form one of the great college lacrosse squads in history, winning national title games in 1989 and 1990. Marechek is the fifth leading college goal scorers in lacrosse history with 182 goals, a four-time All-American, three-time first-team All-American pick, had 76 assists and 258 career points, scored 53 goals during his junior season to lead NCAA Division I, and set a Syracuse freshman record by scoring 46 goals on just 82 shots (56.1 per cent). Gary Charles Gait (born April 5, 1967) is a Canadian retired Hall of Fame professional lacrosse player and currently the head coach of the men’s lacrosse team at Syracuse University, where he played the sport collegiately. On January 24, 2017, he was named the Interim Commissioner of the United Women's Lacrosse League. He played collegiately for the Syracuse Orange men's lacrosse team and professionally in the indoor National Lacrosse League and the outdoor MLL, while representing Canada at the international level. The Princeton Tigers men's lacrosse team represents Princeton University in NCAA Division I men's lacrosse play. Princeton currently competes as a member of the Ivy League and plays its home games at the Class of 1952 Stadium in Princeton, New Jersey. The North Carolina Tar Heels men's lacrosse team represents the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's lacrosse.
