1991 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Football Team
The 1991 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team represented the Georgia Institute of Technology during the 1991 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Yellow Jackets were led by head coach Bobby Ross in his fifth and final year with the team, and played their home games at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. They competed as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference, finishing tied for second. The defending national champions of the Coaches Poll, Georgia Tech finished with a disappointing five losses. They opened the year with a top-ten battle with Penn State in the Kickoff Classic, losing 22–34. Further losses to ACC foes Clemson and NC State knocked Georgia Tech out of the polls. They won 5 of their last 6, however, capped by a come-from-behind win over Stanford in the 1991 Aloha Bowl in Honolulu. Bobby Ross
Robert Joseph Ross (born December 23, 1936) is an American former football coach. He served as the head football coach at The Citadel (1973–1977), the University of Maryland, College Park (1982–1986), the Georgia Institute of Technology (1987–1991), and the United States Military Academy (2004–2006), compiling a career college football record of 103–101–2. Ross was also the head coach of the National Football League's San Diego Chargers from 1992 to 1996 and the Detroit Lions from 1997 to 2000, tallying a career NFL mark of 77–68. He guided his 1990 Georgia Tech squad to the UPI national championship and coached the 1994 San Diego Chargers to an appearance in Super Bowl XXIX. Carter–Finley Stadium
Wayne Day Family Field at Carter–Finley Stadium is home to the NC State Wolfpack football team. It was opened in 1966 and has grown to a seating capacity of 56,919 seats. History As early as the 1950s, State was looking to replace its on-campus facility, Riddick Stadium. The concrete-and-wood stadium had been built in 1907 and was showing its age. Clemson–Georgia Tech Football Rivalry
The Clemson–Georgia Tech football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Clemson Tigers football team of Clemson University and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team of Georgia Tech. Both schools are members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Since conference expansion in 2005, Clemson represents the Atlantic Division while Georgia Tech plays in the Coastal Division, and they are official cross-divisional rivals which play every year.
