National Professional Soccer League (1984–2001)
The National Professional Soccer League was a professional indoor soccer league in the US and Canada. It was originally called the American Indoor Soccer Association. History In November 1983, a Kalamazoo, Michigan-based group called Soccer Leagues Unlimited unveiled a plan for an indoor league composed exclusively of American players. The group's president, Bob Lemieux (later AISA commissioner), announced that Kalamazoo, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Springfield, Illinois, were on board in what was he said was intended to be a sort of farm system, or developmental league, for the well established Major Indoor Soccer League (1978–92), Major Indoor Soccer League. Dan O'Keefe (soccer)
Dan O’Keefe is a retired American soccer forward who played over ten seasons in the U.S. indoor leagues. He led the American Indoor Soccer Association in scoring in 1989. Youth O’Keefe grew up in St. Louis where he attended McCluer High School and then attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he played on the men's soccer team from 1980 to 1983. In 1982, he led the team in scoring with thirteen goals and finished his four-year career ranked twelfth on the school's career goals list with twenty-seven. Tony Bono
Anthony "Tony" Bono is a retired American soccer player who played professionally in the Major Indoor Soccer League, American Indoor Soccer Association, National Professional Soccer League and Lone Star Soccer Alliance. Bono graduated from Frankford High School, where he was a 1979 First-Team and 1980 Second-Team All-State soccer player. Bono then attended Drexel University, where he was a 1984 first-team All-American soccer player. In 1985, the Minnesota Strikers of the Major Indoor Soccer League drafted Bono in the third round. In December 1987, the Strikers waived Bono. On January 15, 1988, the Chicago Sting signed Bono to a ten-day contract. The Sting kept Bono on the roster until they folded at the end of the season. Midfielder
A midfielder is an outfield position in association football. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders. Arturo Velazco
Arturo Velazco is an American former soccer defender. He played four seasons in the Western Soccer Alliance, five in the American Professional Soccer League, at least three in the National Professional Soccer League and one in the Continental Indoor Soccer League. He also earned two caps with the United States men's national soccer team in 1988. Professional career Outdoor soccer Velazco graduated from La Jolla High School. Bret Hall
Bret Hall is an American soccer coach and former professional player who played in the NASL, Major Indoor Soccer League and National Professional Soccer League. He has coached at the collegiate, professional and national team levels. Player Hall played soccer for Wheaton College, graduating in 1979. The Portland Timbers of the North American Soccer League drafted Hall in the second round of the 1979 NASL Draft. He never played for the Timbers. Instead, he played for the Chicago Sting from 1980 to 1983. In 1981 he became a NASL league champion winning the Soccer Bowl with the Sting, defeating the New York Cosmos in Toronto and bringing the title back to Chicago. Brian Tinnion (footballer, Born 1948)
Brian Tinnion (born 11 June 1948) is an English retired Association football forward who played eleven seasons in the lower English divisions, four in the North American Soccer League, three in the American Soccer League and one in the Major Indoor Soccer League. He also coached professionally in the American Soccer League and National Professional Soccer League as well as at the collegiate level with Eastern Michigan University. He was the 1982 ASL league leading scorer and most valuable player (MVP). Player Tinnion began his career in 1965 with Workington A.F.C. which then played in the Third Division. However, the team dropped to the Fourth Division in 1967. In 1968, he transferred to fellow fourth division club Wrexham A.F.C. During the 1971–1972 season, he played three games on loan to Chester F.C., but otherwise was a regular first team player with Wrexham during his eight seasons in Wales. Yaro Dachniwsky is a retired American soccer goalkeeper who spent most of his career with indoor teams. He played part of the 1996 season with the Atlanta Ruckus in the who played professionally in the USL A-League. He was also a member of the United States men's national handball team which placed ninth at the 1996 Summer Olympics Soccer Dachniwsky grew up in Ukrainian Village, Chicago. Dachniwsky's grandfather Dmytro Dachniwsky played for Ukraina Lwów. His father, Myron, played for Ukrainian Lions in the National Soccer League of Chicago.
