1990 FIFA World Cup
The 1990 FIFA World Cup was the 14th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams. It was held from 8 June to 8 July 1990 in Italy, the second country to host the event for a second time (the first being Mexico in 1986). Teams representing 116 national football associations entered and qualification began in April 1988. 22 teams qualified from this process, along with host nation Italy and defending champions Argentina. The tournament was won by West Germany, for the third time. They beat Argentina 1–0 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, a rematch of the previous final four years earlier. Italy finished third and England fourth, after both lost their semi-finals in penalty shootouts. Marc Emmers
Marc Jozef Emmers (born 25 February 1966 in Hamont-Achel) is a retired Belgian footballer. His former clubs include KV Mechelen, R.S.C. Anderlecht and AC Lugano. With K.V. Mechelen, he won the Belgian Cup in 1987, the European Cup Winner's Cup and the European Super Cup in 1988 and the Belgian First Division title in 1989. After his transfer to the great R.S.C. Anderlecht of the mid-1990s, he won the Belgian First Division title three times from 1994 to 97. Emmers was a versatile player who was mainly played out as a midfielder. Through his career, he played at the position of libero, defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder and right-back. International career Emmers also played for Belgium and was in the squad for two World Cups. Chung Yong-Hwan
Chung Yong-hwan (Hangul: 정용환, 10 February 1960 – 7 June 2015) was a South Korean football player and manager. Chung was a one-club man who spent all his professional career in K League side Daewoo Royals. He played for South Korea in 1986 and 1990 FIFA World Cup, and also captained in 1990. He died of stomach cancer on 7 June 2015. Style of play Chung did not have great height, but he was noted for his jumping ability. He did not lose aerial duels against a 1.97 m forward Rob Landsbergen. His fast reaction and good sense of balance also made his defensive skills accurately. Choi Kang-Hee (footballer)
Choi Kang-hee (; born 12 April 1959) is a South Korean football manager and former player. Club career Choi played for Hanil Bank and Army FC in the Korean Semi-professional League. After he accomplished his military service in ROK Army, South Korea's professional league (K League) was founded at a similar time, and he started his professional career by joining a K League club POSCO Dolphins. However, he transferred to Hyundai Horang-i after hearing the news of its foundation. He became a founding member of Hyundai Horang-i, and spent the rest of his playing career in there. He retired at the end of the 1992 season after a row with the club's manager Cha Bum-kun over Cha's training methods. Park Kyung-Hoon
Park Kyung-hoon (; born 19 January 1961) is a South Korean football manager and former player. Park played for the South Korean national team in 1986 and 1990 FIFA World Cup. He also won the 1986 Asian Games with the national team. Club career Born in the slum of Seoul, (Suyu-dong) Park had liked art originally, but he changed his career path to be a footballer due to his financial problem when becoming a high school student. He spent his professional career in POSCO Atoms, and won three titles in the K League. In the 1988 season, he was named the Most Valuable Player, but he thought that his teammate Lee Kee-keun should deserve the award. He wanted to return it, but the K League Federation rejected his decision. In 1993, Park announced his retirement and left for England to study abroad. Guy Thys
Guy Thys (6 December 1922 – 1 August 2003) was a Belgian football manager, mostly known for being the most successful manager in the history of the Belgium national football team as he managed to lead the national side to their only UEFA European Championship final in 1980 and a fourth–place finish at the 1986 FIFA World Cup. Career Thys was born in Antwerp and started his career in the 1940s and 50s as a football player with Beerschot, Daring Molenbeek and Standard. In 1952 and 1953 he played two matches with the ''Red Devils'', the Belgian national team. He combined the activities of player and trainer for Cercle Brugge from 1954 until 1958. Marc Robert Wilmots (born 22 February 1969) is a Belgian professional football manager and former player who recently managed the Iran national team and is now active at Raja CA. During his club career as attacking midfielder, he won trophies with KV Mechelen, Standard Liège and Schalke 04. He also represented the Belgium national team. Wilmots has also been a politician, having sat in the Senate for four years for the Mouvement Réformateur party. Club career In his club career, which started in 1987, Wilmots played for Sint-Truiden, Mechelen, Standard Liège, Schalke 04, and Bordeaux. At Schalke, he helped them to the 1997 UEFA Cup Final. Gilbert Bodart (born 2 September 1962) is a Belgian football manager and former player. Playing career Bodart was born in Ougrée, Belgium. A goalkeeper, he played a long time with Standard Liège. Bodart also played 12 times with Belgium from 1986 to 1995. In 1996 the goalkeeper moved to the French team of Girondins de Bordeaux. Jan Anna Gumaar Ceulemans (; born 28 February 1957) is a Belgian former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. A prolific goalscorer, Ceulemans was known for his stamina, aerial ability and technique. He was also known for his power, imposing frame and natural authority.
