1990 Big Sky Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1990 Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament was the fifteenth edition, held March 8–10 at the BSU Pavilion at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. Defending champion Idaho defeated in the championship game, It was the Vandals' second consecutive Big Sky tournament title, and fourth overall (1981, 1982, 1989, 1990). Format Similar to the previous year, the tournament included the top six teams in the league standings. The top two earned byes into the semifinals while the remaining four played in the quarterfinals. The top seed met the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals. Bracket NCAA tournament The Vandals gained the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, and no other Big Sky members were invited to the tournament or Seeded thirteenth in the West Regional, Idaho lost to Louisville in Salt Lake City in the first round. Taco Bell Arena
ExtraMile Arena (formerly BSU Pavilion and Taco Bell Arena) is a multi-purpose indoor arena in the western United States, on the campus of Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. It is located on the east end of campus, between West Campus Lane and César Chávez Circle, immediately northwest of Albertsons Stadium. Home to the Broncos basketball and gymnastics teams, its current seating capacity is 12,644 for basketball. The elevation of its floor is approximately above sea level. The venue is also used for concerts (capacity 13,390), community events, and trade shows ( of arena floor space plus in the auxiliary gym). Big Sky Conference Women's Basketball Tournament
The Big Sky Conference women's basketball tournament is held at the end of each women's college basketball regular season. The tournament was first conducted by the Big Sky Conference at the end of the 1988–89 season, the first in which the conference sponsored women's sports. The Big Sky includes in its history the preceding six years of the Mountain West Athletic Conference, a women's athletic league consisting mostly of Big Sky members that operated from 1982 to 1988, so the inaugural tournament was in March 1983. (The MWAC of the 1980s is not affiliated with the current Mountain West Conference (MWC), launched in 1999). The tournament winner receives the Big Sky's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Prior to the 1982–83 season, Big Sky members with women's basketball programs housed them in several different conferences. The 1982 Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament was held March 5–6 at the Kibbie Dome at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. Top-seeded Idaho defeated in the championship game, 85–80, to clinch their second consecutive (and second overall) Big Sky men's basketball tournament. Entering the conference tournament, Idaho was and ranked sixth in both national polls (AP, UPI), then fell to eighth in both final polls the following week. Format First played in 1976, the Big Sky tournament had the same format for its first eight editions. The regular season champion hosted and only the top four teams from the standings took part, with seeding based on regular season conference records. Idaho's sole conference loss was to Montana in Missoula. Nevada–Reno made their first Big Sky tournament appearance in their third season in the conference.
