1989 World Cup (men's Golf)
The 1989 World Cup took place 16–19 November at Las Brisas Golf Club in Marbella, Spain. It was the 35th World Cup event. The tournament was shortened, due to rain, from 72 to 36 holes. Both the second round on Friday and the fourth round on Sunday were cancelled and only the Thursday and Saturday rounds were counted in the competition. The World Cup, previously named the Canada Cup, had been shortened before, due to bad weather; 1963, 1972 and 1984, but it was the first time since the event was instituted in 1953, that two full rounds were lost. It was a stroke play team event with 32 teams. Each team consisted of two players from a country. The combined score of each team determined the team results. The Australia team of Peter Fowler and Wayne Grady won by three strokes over the Spain team of José María Cañizares and José María Olazábal. The individual competition was won by Fowler. Jean Van De Velde (golfer)
Jean van de Velde (born 29 May 1966) is a French professional golfer, who formerly played on the European Tour and the PGA Tour. He came close to winning The Open Championship in 1999, but lost a three shot lead on the final hole. Early life and amateur career Van de Velde was born in Mont-de-Marsan, Landes, France. As an amateur he won both the French Youths Championship and the French Amateur Championship. Denis Durnian
Denis Durnian (born 30 June 1950) is an English professional golfer. Durnian was born in Wigan, Greater Manchester. He turned professional in 1969 and played on the European Tour from the early 1970s to the early 1990s. He never won a European Tour event, but he finished second four occasions, with one being a defeat in a matchplay final, and twice losing out in a playoff. His best finish on the European Tour Order of Merit was 20th in 1988. In 1985 he won the PLM Open, which became a European Tour event the following season, and he was twice the British Club Professional Champion. Steen Tinning (born 7 October 1962) is a Danish professional golfer who formerly played on the European Tour and plays on the European Senior Tour. Career Tinning was born in Copenhagen. After a successful amateur career he turned professional in 1985 and soon won a place on the European Tour. This career was interrupted when he and his wife were involved in a multiple car crash in Germany in 1990, which badly damaged his right arm. He recovered and went on to win two European Tour events, the 2000 Celtic Manor Resort Wales Open and the 2002 Telefonica Open de Madrid. Anders Sørensen (born 20 February 1962) is a Danish professional golfer. Professional career Sørensen qualified for the European Tour before the 1988 season. In his first two seasons, he made the cut in slightly more than half the events and recorded two top-10s. In 1990, his third season, would be a marked improvement. Eduardo Herrera (born 28 April 1965) is a Colombian professional golfer. Herrera was the first Colombian golfer to feature in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Rankings. Dave Barr (golfer)
David Allen Barr (born March 1, 1952) is a Canadian professional golfer who has played on the Canadian Tour, PGA Tour and Champions Tour. Barr was born in Kelowna, British Columbia. He attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma and was a member of the golf team. He finished as runner-up in the 1972 Canadian Amateur Championship. Barr turned professional in 1974.
