The Championships, Wimbledon
The Wimbledon Championships, commonly known simply as Wimbledon, is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and is widely regarded as the most prestigious. It has been held at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London, since 1877 and is played on outdoor grass courts, with retractable roofs over the two main courts since 2019. Wimbledon is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, the others being the Australian Open, the French Open, and the US Open. Wimbledon is the only major still played on grass, the traditional tennis playing surface. Also, it is the only Grand Slam that retains a night-time curfew, though matches can now continue until 11.00 pm under the lights. The tournament traditionally takes place over two weeks in late June and early July, starting on the last Monday in June and culminating with the Ladies' and Gentlemen's Singles Finals, scheduled for the Saturday and Sunday at the end of the second week. Guillaume Raoux (born 14 February 1970) is a retired tennis player from France. Career Raoux reached the Wimbledon junior singles final in 1988. He turned professional in 1989. Peter Doohan (2 May 1961 – 21 July 2017) was an Australian tennis player who won three consecutive Australian Hard Court Championships singles titles (1984, 1985, 1986), which remains an Open era record for that tournament. Alexandre Hocevar (born 19 February 1963) is a former professional tennis player from Brazil. Biography Career Hocevar was born in Ijuí, Rio Grande do Sul, of Slovene descent. Began competing professionally in 1982. Most successful as a doubles player, he appeared in the men's doubles draws of both the French Open and Wimbledon during his career, as well as making the semi-finals of Grand Prix tournaments at Itaparica and Guarujá in 1980s. Steve Guy (born 15 March 1959) is a former professional tennis player from New Zealand. Career Guy appeared in the singles draw of three Australian Opens and never progressed past the second round.
