The Texas Rangers 1989 season involved the Rangers finishing fourth in the American League West with a record of 83 wins and 79 losses. This season, the Rangers were sold to a new ownership group; the managing partner was future United States President George W. Bush. American League West
The American League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. The division has five teams as of the 2013 season, but had four teams from 1994 to 2012, and had as many as seven teams before the 1994 realignment. Although its teams currently only reside along the West Coast of the United States, west coast and in Texas, historically the division has had teams as far east as Chicago. From 1998 (when the NL West expanded to five teams) to 2012, the AL West was the only MLB division with four teams. The current champion of this division is the Houston Astros. In 2013, the Houston Astros went from the National League Central to the AL West. That move gives all six MLB divisions an equal five teams and both leagues an equal 15 teams each. Guy Hoffman (baseball)
Guy Alan Hoffman (born July 9, 1956) is an American former pitcher. He played high school baseball at Marquette High School in Ottawa, Illinois. He graduated from Marquette in 1974. He played all or part of six seasons in the Major League Baseball from to , chiefly as a reliever. After his MLB career, he played three seasons for the Orix BlueWave in the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) from until Pro career Hoffman signed with the Chicago White Sox as an undrafted amateur free agent on July 17, 1978. He made his professional debut for the Appleton Foxes of the Midwest league. Hoffman was part of a well stocked pitching staff that included prospects like Britt Burns and LaMarr Hoyt. Hoffman went 2–0 with two saves, appearing in seven games. The Cleveland Guardians are an American professional baseball team based in Cleveland. Oddibe McDowell
Oddibe McDowell (born August 25, 1962) is an American former center fielder in Major League Baseball (MLB) who played from 1985 to 1994 for the Texas Rangers, Cleveland Indians, and Atlanta Braves. His first name is pronounced "owed a bee" or "oh-ta-bee." Because it also sounds vaguely like a slurred rendition of "oh to be", ESPN personality and announcer Chris Berman dubbed him Oddibe "Young Again" McDowell. Amateur baseball McDowell was a noted multi-sport athlete at McArthur High School in Hollywood, Florida, and won the Florida High School Activities Association Class 4A wrestling championship at 155 pounds in 1979. Peter Michael "Pete" O'Brien (born February 9, 1958) is a former first baseman in Major League Baseball who played for the Texas Rangers ( 1982– 88), Cleveland Indians (1989), and Seattle Mariners (1990– 93). Robert Andrew Meacham (born August 25, 1960) is an American former professional baseball shortstop, who spent his entire six-year big league playing career with the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). Andrew Clark "Drew" Hall is an American former Major League Baseball pitcher with the Chicago Cubs (–), Texas Rangers () and Montreal Expos (). He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but grew up in Ashland, Kentucky and attended Paul G. Blazer High School. He then attended Morehead State University. He is most famous for being involved in the Rafael Palmeiro and Mitch Williams trade in 1988. He was used primarily as a relief pitcher and spot starter. Jamie Moyer
Jamie Moyer (born November 18, 1962) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Over his 25-year career in Major League Baseball (MLB), Moyer pitched for the Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, Philadelphia Phillies, and Colorado Rockies. He was inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame in 2015. Rafael Palmeiro Corrales (born September 24, 1964) is a Cuban-American former Major League Baseball first baseman and left fielder. Palmeiro was an All-American at Mississippi State University before being drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1985. He played for the Cubs (1986–1988), Texas Rangers (1989–1993, 1999–2003), and the Baltimore Orioles (1994–1998, 2004–2005). Stephen Douglas Wilson (born December 13, 1964) is a Canadian former professional baseball player. A left-handed pitcher, he played all or part of six seasons in Major League Baseball. He is an alumnus of the University of Portland and participated in the 1983 Pan American Games and the 1984 Summer Olympics for Canada.
