1989 Peace And Friendship Cup
The 1989 Peace and Friendship Cup was a seven-team friendly football tournament, held in Kuwait City, Kuwait from 30 October to 12 November 1989. The timing of this tournament was a year after the end of Iran–Iraq War. Some notable sporting personalities attended this tournament such as Juan Antonio Samaranch, João Havelange and Michel Platini. Kuwait City
Kuwait City ( ar, مدينة الكويت) is the capital and largest city of Kuwait. Located at the heart of the country on the south shore of Kuwait Bay on the Persian Gulf, it is the political, cultural and economical centre of the emirate, containing Kuwait's Seif Palace, government offices, and the headquarters of most Kuwaiti corporations and banks. Samir Kadhim Hassan is an Iraqi football defender who played for Iraq in the 1996 Asian Cup. He also played for Al Wakra Samir was a dominating and aggressive man-marker and a regular for the Iraqi national team during the 1990s. He was a member of Iraq's Asian Youth Championship winning team in 1988 in Doha, Qatar which included goalkeeper Emad Hashim, captain Radhi Shenaishil and attacking midfielder Laith Hussein. Laith Hussein Shihaib Al-Tawlid ( ar, ليث حسين شهيب التولد; born 13 October 1968) is an Iraqi former football player who was the captain of the Iraqi national team. He was vital to speaking out against Uday Hussein, the chairman of the Iraqi Olympic Committee, who was known for his brutality against the football team. International career Hussein made his international debut at the age of 17 in 1986. He played in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul and helped Iraq win the Asian Youth Championship in Doha. Ahmed Radhi Humaiesh Al-Salehi, ( ar, أحمد راضي هميش الصالحي, 21 April 1964 – 21 June 2020) was an Iraqi footballer who played as a forward. Regarded as one of Iraq and Asia's best players of all-time, Radhi scored the only Iraqi goal in the FIFA World Cup during its 1986 edition, a low shot to the corner of the net against Belgium in a 2–1 defeat.
