1988–89 Millwall F.C. Season
During the 1988–89 English football season, Millwall F.C. competed in the Football League First Division. This was Millwall's 62nd season in the Football League, and first ever season in the top tier of English football, after achieving promotion from the Second Division as Champions in 1987–88 Football League, 1987–88. Season summary Millwall had won promotion to the First Division for the first time in their history as Second Division champions at the end of the 1987–88 season, and were among the pre-season favourites for relegation, but defied the odds and were top of the First Division by the beginning of October, having won four of their first six league games. By Christmas, they were still an impressive fifth in the league, but finished 10th at the end of the season after failing to win any of their final 10 games. Millwall F
Millwall is a district on the western and southern side of the Isle of Dogs, in east London, England, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It lies to the immediate south of Canary Wharf and Limehouse, north of Greenwich and Deptford, east of Rotherhithe, west of Cubitt Town, and has a long shoreline along London's Tideway, part of the River Thames. Danis Mahmut Mehmet Salman ( tr, Danış Salman; born 12 March 1960), sometimes known as Danny Salman, is a Turkish Cypriot-born English former professional footballer and coach, best remembered for his time as a defender in the Football League with Brentford. He made over 380 appearances for the Bees, is the club's youngest-ever league debutant and was inducted into the club's Hall of Fame. He also played for Millwall, Plymouth Argyle and Torquay United. Steve Wood (footballer, Born February 1963)
Steve Wood (born 2 February 1963) is an English former football defender. Wood started his career as an apprentice at Arsenal but was then snapped up by Reading for whom he had eight successful years gaining promotion to the Second Division. He then moved to Millwall for £85,000, and finally onto Southampton for £400,000. He had a brief spells at Oxford United and Woking in the latter part of his career then retired. He now runs his own football representation company, Midas Sports. Neil Ruddock
Neil "Razor" Ruddock (born 9 May 1968) is an English former professional footballer and television personality who is a club director at Enfield. As a player he was a central defender from 1986 to 2003, and was voted the 17th "hardest footballer of all time". He made his debut at Millwall, having been associated with the club since the age of 13, and also represented Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton, Liverpool, West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers and Swindon Town during a professional career spanning 17 years. Keith Henry Stevens (born 21 June 1964) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender, spending his entire career with Millwall. Career Stevens made his debut with Millwall in a Third Division fixture against Oxford United in April 1981, when still only 16 years old. Stevens was nicknamed "Rhino" by his teammates, although it is unclear if this was due to his fearless tackling style or the size of his nose. He gained a regular first team place two seasons later and helped Millwall reach the Second Division in 1985 and the First Division (for the first time) in 1988. Alan McLeary
Alan McLeary (born 6 October 1964) is an English football former defender. He spent the majority of his career at Millwall, but also had spells at Charlton Athletic and Bristol City, as well as loan spells at Sheffield United and Wimbledon. Ian Robert Dawes (born 22 February 1963) is an English former professional footballer. Born in Croydon, Surrey, Dawes made more than 200 appearances in the Football League for each of his two clubs, Queens Park Rangers and Millwall, playing as a left back. Dawes made his debut for Queens Park Rangers on 27 March 1982 against Rotherham United, and went on to play in 229 league games, including 198 consecutive appearances between 1982 and 1986, and scored three goals. Dawes was a member of the 1986 Football League Cup Final team. Brian Horne
Brian Simon Horne (born 5 October 1967) is an English former footballer who played professionally as a goalkeeper for Millwall, Middlesbrough, Stoke City, Portsmouth and Hartlepool United. Career Horne was born in Billericay and began his career with Millwall making 38 appearances in his debut season of 1986–87.
