1988 Wales Rugby Union Tour Of New Zealand
The 1988 Wales rugby union tour of New Zealand was a series of rugby union games undertaken by the Wales national rugby union team to New Zealand. The tour consisted of six matches against regional teams and two Tests against New Zealand. The tour was not a success for Wales, losing both Tests by heavy scores, and only winning two of the six matches against regional teams. The itinerary was a hard one and New Zealand coach Alex Wyllie stated that he would not have accepted a similar fixture list for his team. The team suffered badly from injuries and had to add six extra players during the course of the tour. Original tour captain Bleddyn Bowen broke his wrist in the second game and was replaced as skipper by Bob Norster, until he suffered a badly gashed knee, whereupon Jonathan Davies took over the captaincy. Eden Park
Eden Park is New Zealand's largest sports stadium, with a capacity of 50,000. Located in central Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, it is three kilometres southwest of the CBD, on the boundary between the suburbs of Mount Eden and Kingsland. It opened in 1900. Glen Webbe
Glen Webbe is a former Wales national rugby union team, Wales rugby union international player. Webbe is often stated to be the first Black Welsh person to represent the Welsh national rugby union team, and has been described as "Wales first black icon". Early life Webbe was born in Cardiff, the only boy of eight children. His parents, Islyn (a nurse at St David's Hospital, Cardiff, St David's Hospital) and Mike (a Steelworker) were part of the Windrush generation, travelling from St Kitts on the RMS Queen Mary and settling in Ely, Cardiff. Nigel Davies (rugby Player)
Nigel Gareth Davies (born 29 March 1965) is a former Wales international rugby union player, who played his club rugby at Llanelli RFC. His son Sam Davies is a professional rugby union player. Davies was born in Waun y Clun, Trimsaran and as a youth player played for local rugby union club Trimsaran RFC. In his final year of playing for the youth team he was invited by Llanelli RFC to play for them in a friendly match, from which he impressed enough to be selected by the club. Davies played 498 games for Llanelli including nine WRU Challenge Cup finals. Ieuan Evans
Ieuan Cennydd Evans (born 21 March 1964) is a former rugby union player who played on the wing for Wales and the British and Irish Lions. He is the fourth highest try scorer for Wales behind Shane Williams, George North and Gareth Thomas and joint 24th in the world on the all-time test try scoring list. Evans held the record for the most Wales caps as captain with 28, a record overtaken by Ryan Jones in 2012. Mike Hall (born 13 October 1965, in Bridgend), is a former Wales, Welsh rugby union international, now property developer and part-time rugby pundit. Just before graduating from University of Cambridge, Hall commenced his international career on 28 May 1988 against New Zealand national rugby union team, New Zealand in Christchurch aged 22. Mark Ring
Mark Gerarde Ring (born 15 October 1962) played rugby union for Cardiff, Pontypool and Wales between 1982 and 1996. He was regarded as among the most gifted players of his generation but his career was hampered by serious injury. Tony Peter Clement (born January 27, 1961) is a Canadian former federal politician and former Member of Parliament for Parry Sound—Muskoka in Ontario. Jonathan Davies (rugby Player Born 1962)
Jonathan Davies, OBE (born 24 October 1962) is a Welsh former rugby footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s, and who represented Wales in both rugby union and rugby league.
