1988 Houston Oilers Season
The 1988 Houston Oilers season was the franchise's 19th season in the National Football League and the 29th overall. The franchise scored 424 points, which was second in the AFC and second overall in the NFL. The defense gave up 365 points. Their record of 10 wins and 6 losses resulted in a third-place finish in the AFC Central Division. The Oilers appeared once on Monday Night Football and appeared in the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Warren Moon would be selected for the Pro Bowl. In the playoffs, they defeated the Cleveland Browns 24-23 in the Wild Card game. However, in the divisional playoffs, they lost 17-10 to the Bills. AFC North
The American Football Conference – Northern Division or AFC North is one of the four divisions of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The division was adopted after the restructuring of the 2002 NFL season, when the league realigned divisions after expanding to 32 teams. This is the only division in the NFL in which no member team has hosted a Super Bowl in their stadiums. Kim Helton
Charles Kimberlin Helton (born July 28, 1948) is an American college and professional football coach. He is currently an offensive analyst at Western Kentucky. Helton was formerly the head football coach of the University of Houston from 1993 to 1999. Early years Helton was born in Pensacola, Florida. Ray Sherman
Ray Sherman (November 27, 1951) is an American football coach for the Vegas Vipers. Sherman has more than four decades of coaching at the college and professional levels. Coaching career College career Sherman played college football at Fresno State as a wide receiver and defensive back. In 1974, he took a job as graduate assistant for San Jose State. June Jones
June Sheldon Jones III (born February 19, 1953) is an American football coach and former player who is currently the Offensive Coordinator of the Seattle Sea Dragons. In gridiron football, a lineman is a player who specializes in play at the line of scrimmage. The linemen of the team currently in possession of the ball are the offensive line, while linemen on the opposing team are the defensive line. Jethro Fitzgerald Franklin (born October 25, 1965) is an American football coach and former player who most recently was the defensive line coach for the Missouri Tigers. Playing career Franklin was born in St. Nazaire, France, while his father was stationed in the US military. He grew up in San Jose, California, attended Yerba Buena High School. He attended San Jose City College, a junior college, where he played both years and earned junior college All-American honors in 1985. He transferred to Fresno State University, where he played for two seasons. Lorenzo White
Lorenzo Maurice White (born April 12, 1966) is a former professional American football player who was selected by the Houston Oilers in the first round (22nd overall) of the 1988 NFL Draft. He attended Dillard High School in Ft. Lauderdale in Florida. A 5 ft 11 in running back from Michigan State University, White played in eight NFL seasons from 1988 to 1995. His best year as a pro came during the 1992 season with the Oilers, rushing for 1,226 yards and seven touchdowns. He was also selected to play in the Pro Bowl that year. At Michigan State, White became the first Big Ten Conference running back to compile a 2,000-yard season when he had 2,066 yards rushing on 419 attempts during the 1985 NCAA Division I-A football season. As a Senior at Michigan State, he ran for 1,572 yards and sixteen touchdowns. White led the Big Ten in rushing attempts and rushing touchdowns.
