1987–88 Atlanta Hawks Season
The 1987–88 NBA season was the Hawks' 39th season in the NBA and 20th season in Atlanta, in the U.S. state of Georgia. The Hawks got off to a 6–5 start to the season, then won 16 of their next 18 games, and held a 30–15 record at the All-Star break. The team posted a 7-game winning streak between March and April, but then lost six of their final nine games, finishing third in the Central Division with a 50–32 record. Dominique Wilkins averaged 30.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game, and was named to the All-NBA Second Team, while Doc Rivers averaged 14.2 points, 9.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game. Michael Robert Fratello (born February 24, 1947) is an American sports broadcaster and a professional basketball coach. Fratello is currently an analyst for Fox Sports Ohio for the Cavaliers and a part-time color commentator for Fox Sports West for the Clippers when they play on the road. He previously coached the Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association (NBA), served as NBC's lead analyst, served as YES Network's color commentator/studio analyst for the Brooklyn Nets, a commentator/studio analyst for NBA TV and for nationally televised games on TNT and was also the head coach of the Ukraine national basketball team. Randy Scott Wittman (born October 28, 1959) is an American former basketball player at the guard position and former coach of the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Washington Wizards. Playing career High school Wittman starred for Indianapolis Ben Davis High School from 1975–1978. He averaged more than 23 points a game for Ben Davis, which remains the second-highest average at the school, and became one of the nation's top recruits. Terrance Bailey
Terrance Bailey (born July 3, 1965) is a former American basketball player who led NCAA Division I in scoring as a junior in 1985–86. A native of Newark, New Jersey, Bailey played at Wagner College for four years and established himself as one of the Northeast Conference's all-time greatest players. Bailey played in 110 career games and scored a conference record 2,591 points, nearly 300 more than the next closest player. In his NCAA-leading junior season, he averaged 29.4 points per game, was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Year, an honorable mention All-American and was in his second of an unmatched three consecutive first team all-conference seasons. Dallas Comegys
Dallas Alonzo Comegys (born August 17, 1964) is an American former professional basketball player. College career Comegys played collegiate basketball for the DePaul Blue Demons in the NCAA Division I from 1983 to 1987. Professional career Comegys was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 21st overall pick of the 1987 NBA Draft. He was traded to the New Jersey Nets in exchange for a second-round draft choice in either 1989 or 1990. He played 75 games (17 starts) for the Nets in 1987–88, averaging 5.6 ppg, adding totals of 218 rebounds and 70 blocks. 1988–89 Cleveland Cavaliers Season
The 1988-89 Cleveland Cavaliers season was the 19th season of NBA basketball in Cleveland, Ohio. During the off-season, the team signed free agent Tree Rollins, and acquired Darnell Valentine from the expansion Miami Heat. The Cavaliers started their season with a 133–93 road win over the expansion Charlotte Hornets on November 4, 1988, which was the Hornets' first game in franchise history, then posted an 11-game winning streak between December and January, which led to a successful 24–5 start, held a 35–11 record at the All-Star break, and finished the season with a 57–25 record, setting a franchise high. 1988–89 Sacramento Kings Season
The 1988-89 NBA season was the Kings' 40th season in the NBA and fourth in Sacramento. It was also the franchise's first season at the new ARCO Arena, after playing the previous three seasons at the original ARCO Arena, as well as the team's first season in the Pacific Division of the NBA's Western Conference. During the off-season, the Kings acquired Rodney McCray from the Houston Rockets, and acquired Randy Wittman from the Atlanta Hawks. At midseason, the team traded Ed Pinckney and Joe Kleine to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Danny Ainge and Brad Lohaus, and dealt Wittman and LaSalle Thompson to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Wayman Tisdale. Boston Garden
The Boston Garden was an arena in Boston, Massachusetts. Designed by boxing promoter Tex Rickard, who also built the third iteration of New York's Madison Square Garden, it opened on November 17, 1928, as "Boston Madison Square Garden" (later shortened to just "Boston Garden") and outlived its original namesake by 30 years. It was above North Station, a train station which was originally a hub for the Boston and Maine Railroad and is now a hub for MBTA Commuter Rail and Amtrak trains. The Garden hosted home games for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA), as well as rock concerts, amateur sports, boxing and professional wrestling matches, circuses, and ice shows. The Omni
Omni Coliseum (often called The Omni) was an indoor arena in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Completed in 1972, the arena seated 16,378 for basketball and 15,278 for hockey. It was part of the Omni Complex, now known as the CNN Center. It was the home arena for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association from 1972 until the arena's closure in 1997 and the Atlanta Flames of the National Hockey League from their inception in 1972 until 1980, when the franchise was sold and relocated to Calgary, Alberta.
