1500 Metres
The 1500 metres or 1,500-metre run (typically pronounced 'fifteen-hundred metres') is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately miles. The event is closely associated with its slightly longer cousin, the mile race, from which it derives its nickname "the metric mile". The demands of the race are similar to that of the 800 metres, but with a slightly higher emphasis on aerobic endurance and a slightly lower sprint speed requirement. The 1500 metre race is predominantly aerobic, but anaerobic conditioning is also required. Each lap run during the world-record race run by Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco in 1998 in Rome, Italy averaged just under 55 seconds (or under 13.8 seconds per 100 metres). 1,500 metres is three and three-quarter laps around a 400-metre track. Han Kulker
Johannes ("Han") Nicolaas Maria Kulker (born 15 August 1959 in Leidschendam, South Holland) is a former Dutch middle distance runner, who won a bronze medal at the 1986 European Championships in Athletics in Stuttgart over 1500 metres. The race was won by Steve Cram. Two years later, Kulker finished sixth in the 1500 m final of the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, where Peter Rono won gold. Uwe Becker (born 10 December 1955 in Rosche) is a German former middle-distance runner who competed primarily in the 1500 metres. He won the silver medal at the 1981 European Indoor Championships. Steve Crabb (athlete)
Stephen Paul "Steve" Crabb (born 30 November 1963) is a former middle-distance runner from England. He ran competitively in the 1980s and 1990s for the London athletic club Enfield Harriers. He ran the 1500 metres at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul and the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Major Competitions Crabb was selected to run in the 1987 World Championships 1500 metres with Steve Cram and Adrian Passey. The following year Crabb qualified to run in the 1988 Olympic 1500 metres with Peter Elliott and Steve Cram ahead of then Olympic champion Sebastian Coe. Marcus O'Sullivan
Marcus O'Sullivan (born in Cork, Ireland on 22 December 1961) is an Irish retired middle-distance runner. He competed for Ireland at four Summer Olympics. After Steve Scott and John Walker, he is the third all-time by total of sub-4 minute miles run over the course of his career, at 101. Running career Although he wasn't planning to go to any of Ireland's universities, O'Sullivan's running encouraged him to go to Villanova University at 19. While competing on a collegiate level, he worked towards a degree in accounting and later attained an MBA and a CPA. The three World Indoor 1500 metre Championships won by O'Sullivan were in 1987 (Indianapolis), 1989 (Budapest), and 1993 (Toronto). In his victories in 1987 and 1989, he set championship records.
