Longchamp Racecourse
The Longchamp Racecourse (french: Hippodrome de Longchamp) is a 57 hectare horse-racing facility located on the Route des Tribunes at the Bois de Boulogne in Paris, France. It is used for flat racing and is noted for its variety of interlaced tracks and a famous hill that provides a real challenge to competing thoroughbreds. It has several racetracks varying from 1,000 to 4,000 metres in length, with 46 different starting posts. The course is home to more than half of the group one races held in France, and it has a capacity of 50,000. The highlight of the calendar is the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Mtoto
Mtoto (1 April 1983 – 24 May 2011) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse. In a career which lasted from 1985 until 1988, he ran ten times and won seven races. He showed some promise as three-year-old in 1986, but emerged as a top-class horse in 1987 when he defeated The Derby winner Reference Point in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown. In 1988, he was the dominant middle-distance horse in Britain, winning a second Eclipse Stakes and taking the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Background Bred by John L. Moore, Mtoto was a bay horse with a white blaze. He was sired by the 1967 British Horse of the Year Busted out of the French mare Amazer. Viceregal (horse)
Viceregal (April 4, 1966 – 1984) was a Canadian Champion Thoroughbred racehorse who was voted Canadian Horse of the Year as a two-year-old. Background Bred and raced by E. P. Taylor and his Windfields Farm, he was a first-crop son of the great Northern Dancer and out of the Windfields-owned mare, Victoria Regina. Viceregal was conditioned for racing by Gordon J. "Pete" McCann. Racing career He was sent to race at age two in 1968, and although the colt suffered from soundness problems, he nonetheless won all eight of his starts and won Canadian Horse of the Year honors. Dominique Boeuf
Dominique Boeuf (born 6 June 1968 at Maisons-Laffitte, France) is a jockey in Thoroughbred flat racing. He began his career while still a teen and won his first race on 15 September 1984. Three years later, he got his first Group One win aboard Groom Dancer in the 1987 Prix Lupin. From there, he went on to become the French flat racing Champion Jockey four times. Alain Lequeux (1947 – 26 April 2006) was one of France's leading jockey A jockey is someone who rides horses in horse racing or steeplechase racing, primarily as a profession. Yves Saint-Martin (born 8 September 1941 in Agen, Lot-et-Garonne, France) is a retired champion jockey in French Thoroughbred horse race, Thoroughbred horse racing. He is widely considered one of the greatest riders in French racing history. Saint-Martin won his first race on 26 July 1958 for Suzy Volterra, Mme Suzy Volterra. He went on to be France French flat racing Champion Jockey, leading jockey fifteen times, winning the title in 1960, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1981 and 1983. In his career, Yves Saint-Martin won 3314 races worldwide, of which 3275 were in France. He is tied with three others for most wins (4) in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and holds the record for most victories in several other Group One races, including the Prix du Jockey Club with nine. Natroun
Natroun (20 April 1984 – 2005) was a French Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Owned and bred by the Aga Khan IV and trained by Alain de Royer-Dupré he won three of five races as a three-year-old in 1987. Unraced as a two-year-old he won two minor races in the spring before recording his most important success in the Prix du Jockey Club. In his two remaining races he ran well when fourth under top weight in the Prix Niel and finished unplaced in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He was retired from racing at the end of the year to stand as a breeding stallion but had very little success as a sire of winners in either Europe or Japan. Background Natroun was a brown horse with a small white star bred in France by his owner the Aga Khan. He was sired by Akarad, a colt who was acquired by the Aga Khan at the dispersal sale of Marcel Boussac's bloodstock in 1980. Steve Cauthen
Steve Cauthen (born May 1, 1960) is a retired American jockey. In 1977 he became the first jockey to win over $6 million in a year working with agent Lenny Goodman, and in 1978 he became the youngest jockey to win the U. S. Triple Crown. Cauthen is the only jockey ever named ''Sports Illustrated'' Sportsman of the Year. After riding for a few years in the United States, he began racing in Europe. Reference Point (26 February 1984– December 1991) was a British Thoroughbred race horse and sire. In a career which lasted from August 1986 to October 1987 he ran ten times and won seven races. As a three-year-old he overcame sinus problems before winning York's Dante Stakes, the Derby, Ascot's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, the Great Voltigeur and St. Leger in 1987. It was not until 2012 that another Derby winner contested the St. Leger; when Camelot attempted, and failed, to win the English Triple Crown. His final race of the season resulted in failure in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp, Paris when an abscess was later found to have been responsible for his below-par performance. Greville Michael Wilson Starkey (21 December 1939 – 14 April 2010) was an English jockey who rode almost 2,000 winners during a 33-year career on the flat. Starkey scaled the heights of his profession during his 33-year career in which he rode 1,989 winners on the Flat. He claimed a notable Classic double-double in 1978 when landing The Derby and Irish Derby on Shirley Heights and the Oaks and Irish Oaks on Fair Salinia.
