1987 IAAF World Indoor Championships
The 1st IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics were held in Indianapolis, United States from March 6 to March 8, 1987. The championship had previously been known as the World Indoor Games, which were held once before changing the name. Being the second championship of its kind, there were several championship records. New championship records were set for every single women's event. There were a total number of 419 participating athletes from 85 countries. Results Men 1 Ben Johnson of Canada originally won the 60 metres in 6.41, but was disqualified in September 1989 after admitting to using steroids between 1981 and 1988. Women 1 Angella Issajenko of Canada originally finished second in the 60 metres in 7.08, but was disqualified in September 1989 after admitting to steroid use between 1985 and 1988. James Lott
James Lott (born October 13, 1965) is a retired football player and American high jumper. . He finished tenth at the 1987 World Indoor Championships and won the gold medal at the 1987 World Summer Universiade Games. His personal best jump is 2.34 metres, achieved in May 1987 in Austin. In 1983, while competing for Refugio High School in Refugio, Texas, Lott set the National High school and World Junior Record in the high jump at 7' 4¾" improving on the 4-year-old record by Lee Balkin. The following year, Lott's record was improved upon by Dothel Edwards from Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Georgia which lasted 25 years. List Of IAAF World Indoor Championships Records
The World Athletics Indoor Championships are a biennial indoor track and field competition served as the global championship for that version of the sport. Organised by the World Athletics, the competition was inaugurated as the ''World Indoor Games'' in 1985 in Paris, France and were subsequently renamed to IAAF World Indoor Championships in 1987. The current name was adapted with the name change of the sports governing body in 2019. They have been held every two years except for when they were held in consecutive years 2003 and 2004 to facilitate the need for them to be held in alternate years to the main World Athletics Championships (outdoors) in the future. André Schneider-Laub (born 12 August 1958) is a retired (West) German high jumper. He won the silver medal at the 1977 European Junior Championships, finished seventh at the 1978 European Championships, won the bronze medal at the 1979 European Indoor Championships, finished sixth at the 1981 European Indoor Championships, fourth at the 1982 European Championships, sixth at the 1987 European Indoor Championships and competed without reaching the final at the 1987 World Indoor Championships. Dalton Grant (born 8 April 1966) is a former high jumper. Athletics career Grant won a total number of four national titles for Great Britain (AAA Championships) in the men's high jump event. His personal best jump is 2.36 metres, achieved at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo. He has a personal indoor best of 2.37 metres. Grant appeared at five consecutive Commonwealth Games. He represented England in the high jump, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Zhu Jianhua (; born 29 May 1963) is a retired Chinese high jumper. His personal best of 2.39 metres is a former world record for the event, and is still the Chinese record. In Helsinki 1983, Zhu became China's first man to win a medal in the IAAF World Championships. In the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, he became the first male from the People's Republic of China to win an athletics medal in the history of the Olympic Games (Yang Chuan-kwang won a silver medal representing the Republic of China in the 1960 Rome Olympics).
