The Senior men's race at the 1987 IAAF World Cross Country Championships was held in Warszawa, Poland, at the Służewiec Racecourse on March 22, 1987. A report on the event was given in the Glasgow Herald and in the Evening Times. Complete results, medallists, and the results of British athletes were published. IAAF
World Athletics, formerly known as the International Amateur Athletic Federation (from 1912 to 2001) and International Association of Athletics Federations (from 2001 to 2019, both abbreviated as the IAAF) is the international governing body for the sport of athletics, covering track and field, cross country running, road running, race walking, mountain running, and ultra running. Bruno Le Stum
Bruno Le Stum (born 25 December 1959) is a retired French long-distance runner who specialized in the 5000 metres and cross-country running. He was born in Le Havre, but represented the club Montpellier PSC. He competed at the 1987 World Championships, the 1988 Olympic Games and the 1991 World Championships without reaching the final. On the regional level he won the silver medal at the 1989 Jeux de la Francophonie, he finished eighth at the 1990 European Championships and eighteenth—in the marathon—at the 1994 European Championships. His personal best time was 8.15.28 minutes, achieved in July 1991 in Nice. At the World Cross Country Championships he recorded many top placements. Kevin Forster
Kevin John Forster (born 27 September 1958) is a male retired long-distance runner from England. Athletics career Forster finished 33rd in the marathon at the 1988 Summer Olympics and was the fastest English marathon runner of 1988. Forster won the Enschede Marathon, the Toronto Marathon and the Stockholm Marathon during his career and had two silver medals from the London Marathon (1984, 2:11:41 and 1988, 2:10:52). He was also a member of the England Cross Country teams competing in the World Cross Country Championships through the 1980s, winning silver team medals in 1982 (Rome) and 1987 (Warsaw). Carl Edward Thackery (born 14 October 1962 in Sheffield, England) is a retired British long-distance runner, who competed in the 1980s and 1990s. Athletics career He ran twice for Great Britain in the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, finishing 16th and winning team silver in 1992 and winning individual and team bronzes in 1993. He also finished 14th in the 1986 European Athletics Championships – Men's 10,000 metres, won team silver at the 1987 IAAF World Cross Country Championships – Senior men's race (where he finished 20th), and won team silver at the IAAF World Road Relay Championships in 1986, helping to set a UK record for the road marathon relay in the process. Vincent Rousseau
Vincent Rousseau (born 29 July 1962 in Mons, Hainaut) is a former long-distance runner from Belgium, who competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1984. In 1993, he had his biggest success by winning the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Brussels, the next year followed by the first place in the Rotterdam Marathon. Twice (1985 and 1993) Rousseau was named ''Belgian Sportsman of the Year''. Moses Tanui (born 20 August 1965 in Sugoi Nandi District, Kenya) is a former Kenyan long-distance runner who won the gold medal over 10,000 metres at the 1991 World Championships in Athletics in Tokyo. Biography At the 1993 World Championships in Athletics in Stuttgart he finished second after a controversial incident on the final lap in which he lost one shoe after the eventual winner Haile Gebrselassie had stepped repeatedly, lap after lap as a race video reveals, upon Tanui's heels. John Halvorsen
John Halvorsen (born 17 August 1966) is a retired Norwegian long-distance runner who specialized in 10,000 metres and cross-country running. He represented IF Minerva. In 10,000 m he finished sixteenth at the 1988 Summer Olympics, twelfth at the 1990 European Championships and nineteenth at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Francesco Panetta (born 10 January 1963 in Siderno) is a former Italian long-distance runner, who won several medals at international championships in the 1980s. Career Panetta's greatest achievement was the victory at the 1987 World Championships in the 3000m steeplechase in Rome. In the previous year Panetta won a silver medal at the 1986 European Championships in Stuttgart, only narrowly losing to the East German runner Hagen Melzer. At the 1988 Olympic Games, Panetta finished ninth in the 3000m steeplechase. Panetta won a gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the 1990 European Championships in Split.
