Super Giant Slalom Skiing
Super giant slalom, or super-G, is a racing discipline of alpine skiing. Along with the faster Downhill (ski competition), downhill, it is regarded as a "speed" event, in contrast to the technical events giant slalom and slalom skiing, slalom. It debuted as an official FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, World Cup event during the 1983 Alpine Skiing World Cup, 1983 season and was added to the official schedule of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, World Championships in FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1987, 1987 and the Alpine skiing at the Winter Olympics, Winter Olympics in Alpine skiing at the 1988 Winter Olympics, 1988. Much like downhill, a super-G course consists of widely set gates that racers must pass through.
