1986–87 Arkansas Razorbacks Men's Basketball Team
The 1986–87 Arkansas Razorbacks men's basketball team represented the University of Arkansas in the 1986-87 season. Led by head coach Nolan Richardson, the Razorbacks would manage a 19–14 record, and a trip to the second round of the NIT. This season, although not the NCAA Tournament, was Arkansas' first postseason tournament under Richardson. The first of many, including a national championship in 1994. Nolan Richardson
Nolan Richardson Jr. (born December 27, 1941) is an American former basketball head coach best known for his tenure at the Arkansas Razorbacks men's basketball, University of Arkansas, where he won the 1994 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament and led the Razorbacks to three Final Fours. Elected to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014, Richardson coached teams to winning a Division I (NCAA), Division I Basketball National Championship, an National Invitation Tournament, NIT championship, and a Junior College National Championship, making him the only coach to win all three championships. During his 22 seasons of coaching in NCAA Division I, Richardson made a post-season tournament appearance 20 times. Reunion Arena was an indoor arena located in the Reunion, Dallas, Reunion district of downtown Dallas, Texas, United States. The arena served as the primary home of the National Hockey League's (NHL) Dallas Stars and the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Dallas Mavericks. The venue's capacity held accommodations for 17,000 for ice hockey spectators, and 18,190 for basketball spectators. Bob Devaney Sports Center
The Bob Devaney Sports Center (commonly referred to as the Devaney Center) is a sports complex on the campus of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in Lincoln, Nebraska. The facility, opened in 1976 as the NU Sports Complex, was named for football coach and athletic director Bob Devaney in 1978, and its main arena was dedicated as John Cook Arena in 2025. The facility was built to replace the smaller NU Coliseum as the university's primary indoor athletic venue. It hosted men's and women's basketball for thirty-seven years until both programs moved off campus in 2013. Volleyball and wrestling relocated to the vacated Devaney Center, which was extensively modernized and had its main arena shrunk to a capacity of approximately 8,000. The 1986–87 Nebraska Cornhuskers men's basketball team represented the University of Nebraska–Lincoln during the 1986–87 college basketball season. Led by head coach Danny Nee (1st season), the Cornhuskers competed in the Big Eight Conference and played their home games at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The 1986–87 Arkansas State Indians men's basketball team was Arkansas State University from Jonesboro, Arkansas in the 1986–87 season. Led by third year head coach Nelson Catalina, Arkansas State made their first postseason appearance since their transition to NCAA Division I in 1975. Catalina remained head coach at ASU until 1995.
