1986 U.S. Women's Open
The 1986 U.S. Women's Open was the 41st U.S. Women's Open, held July 10–14 at the South Course of NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio, a suburb south of Dayton. Jane Geddes won the first of her two major titles in an 18-hole Monday playoff, winning by two strokes over Sally Little. It was the fifth playoff at the U.S. Women's Open and the first in ten years. This was the only of the four majors in 1986 that was not won by Pat Bradley; she narrowly missed the grand slam with a fifth-place finish, three strokes back. NCR's South Course previously hosted the PGA Championship in 1969. Kettering, Ohio
Kettering is a city in Montgomery county in the U.S. state of Ohio. Almost entirely in Montgomery County, it is an inner suburb of Dayton, Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 57,862 (down slightly from 58,453 in 2010), making it the largest suburb in Dayton metropolitan area. History The area where the city of Kettering now lies was settled from the late 1700s to the mid-1800s, largely as farmland. The population in the area started to grow, prompting the creation of (now defunct) Van Buren Township in 1841. In November 1952, township voters approved incorporating as the Village of Kettering. (In 1953, the western portion of the village voted to secede, forming a new township, which is now the City of Moraine). By 1955, the village's population had grown to 38,118, which qualified it to claim city status, with the official proclamation by the state on June 24. The city is named for inventor Charles F. 1969 PGA Championship
The 1969 PGA Championship was the 51st PGA Championship, played August 14–17 on the South Course of NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio, a suburb south of Dayton. Raymond Floyd, age 26, won the first of his four major titles, one stroke ahead of runner-up Gary Player. Floyd held a five-shot lead after the third round, at 202 (−11), and carded a 74 (+3) on Sunday. During the tournament's third round, demonstrators tried to disrupt the play of Player and Jack Nicklaus. Ice was thrown in Player's face and one spectator yelled while Nicklaus prepared to putt. Security was stepped up for the final round on Sunday. This was the first PGA Championship after the formation of the "Tournament Players Division" in December 1968, later renamed the PGA Tour.
