The 1986 New Zealand rugby league season was the 79th season of rugby league that had been played in New Zealand. The main feature of the year was the Interdistricts Series competition that was run by the New Zealand Rugby League. Auckland won the series, defeating the other three inter-district teams. International competitions The New Zealand national rugby league team lost a three test series to Australia. 1985 New Zealand Rugby League Season
The 1985 New Zealand rugby league season was the 78th season of rugby league that had been played in New Zealand. International competitions New Zealand lost a series to Australia 1–2, however the win, 18–0 at Carlaw Park, counted towards the 1988 World Cup. Kurt Sorensen
Kurt John Sorensen (born 8 November 1956) is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Dean Lonergan
Dean Robert "Locust" Lonergan is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer, and current events promoter. He was the promoter of Jeff "The Hornet" Horn who won the WBO Welterweight World Championship against Manny Pacquiao in 2017. He was also the promoter of rising heavyweight Justis Huni and IBF Cruiserweight Champion Jai Opetaia before both parted company with Lonergan after the promoter fell out of favour with Fox Sports in December 2022. Marty Crequer
Martin (Marty) Paul Crequer (born 28 June 1965) is a New Zealand former rugby league footballer who represented New Zealand. Tea Faa'tea Ropati (born 7 September 1964) is a former professional rugby league footballer who represented New Zealand and Western Samoa. Background Ropati was born in Auckland, New Zealand. Ropati is a member of the large Ropati rugby league family that includes fellow league players Joe Ropati, John Ropati, Iva Ropati, union player Romi Ropati, and league commentator Peter Ropati. Peter Michael Gordon Brown (born 1 September 1961) is a New Zealand rugby league footballer agent and a former footballer who represented New Zealand. His position of preference was at prop. Playing career Brown was a Te Atatu Roosters player in the Auckland Rugby League competition and also represented Auckland. Brown also spent four off-seasons in England, playing for Hunslet, Salford, Halifax and Leigh. Barry Kenneth Harvey is a New Zealand former rugby league footballer who represented New Zealand in three test matches, including matches that counted towards the 1988 World Cup. Gary Freeman (rugby League)
Gary Ross Freeman (born 4 December 1962) is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s, and coached in the 2000s, who both captained and coached the New Zealand national team. Gary Kemble
Gary Edward Kemble (born 23 August 1956), also known by the nickname "Crayfish", is a New Zealand rugby league coach and former player. Ron O'Regan
Ronald Phillip O'Regan is a New Zealand former rugby league footballer, and coach who represented New Zealand between 1983 and 1986. His nephew, Daniel, played for the New Zealand Warriors. Playing career As a young boy he idolised players such as Roger Bailey. In 1981 and 1983, while playing for City Newton, O'Regan won the Rothville Trophy, awarded to the player of the year in the Auckland Rugby League competition.
