1986 MAC Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1986 MAC men's basketball tournament was held March 6–8 at the Rockford MetroCentre in Rockford, Illinois. Third seeded Ball State defeated top-seeded in the championship game by the score of 87–79 to win their second MAC men's basketball tournament and a bid to the NCAA tournament. There they lost to in the first round. Dan Palombizio Ball State was named the tournament MVP. Format Seven of the ten MAC teams participated. All games were played at the Rockford MetroCentre in Rockford, Illinois. BMO Harris Bank Center
The BMO Center (formerly known as BMO Harris Bank Center and Rockford MetroCentre) is a multi-purpose arena located in downtown Rockford, Illinois. It is currently home to the AHL's Rockford IceHogs hockey team. The arena formerly served as the home of several defunct minor league sports teams, including the Rockford Lightning basketball team, the Rock River Raptors indoor football team, and the Rockford Rampage indoor soccer team. The 1985–86 Ball State Cardinals men's basketball team represented Ball State University as a member of the Mid-American Conference during the 1985–86 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Cardinals were led by head coach Al Brown and played their home games at Irving Gymnasium in Muncie, Indiana. After finishing in third place during the MAC regular season, Ball State won the MAC tournament to receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The Mid-American Conference men's basketball tournament is the NCAA Division I postseason single-elimination tournament for the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The winner of the tournament receives the MAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. As of the next MAC tournament in 2021, the top eight teams in conference play will qualify for the tournament. Since 2000, the MAC Tournament has been held at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland and is planned to be held there through at least 2030. The finals are broadcast on ESPN2 and the semi and quarterfinals are broadcast on Spectrum Sports and ESPN3. The tournament was first played in 1980 and expanded to include all conference members in 2000. 1986 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1986 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 13, 1986, and ended with the championship game on March 31 in Dallas, Texas. A total of 63 games were played. Louisville, coached by Denny Crum, won the national title with a 72–69 victory in the final game over Duke, coached by Mike Krzyzewski. Pervis Ellison of Louisville was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Louisville became the first team from outside a power conference to win the championship since the expansion to 64 teams, and remains one of only two teams to do so (the other team was UNLV in 1990). The 1985–86 Ohio Bobcats men's basketball team represented Ohio University as a member of the Mid-American Conference in the college basketball season of 1985–86. The team was coached by Danny Nee in his sixth and final season at Ohio. They played their home games at Convocation Center. The Bobcats finished with a record of 22–8 and finished second in MAC regular season with a conference record of 14–4. They lost in the semifinals of the MAC tournament to Ball State. The 1985–86 Miami Redskins men's basketball team represent Miami University in the 1985–86 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Redskins, led by 2nd-year head coach Jerry Peirson, played their home games at Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio as members of the Mid-American Conference. The team won the conference regular season title, but lost to Ball State in the championship game of the MAC tournament. The Redskins received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 10 seed in the Midwest region. Miami was beaten by the No. 7 seed Iowa State Cyclones in the opening round, 81–79 in OT on a buzzer beater by Jeff Hornacek.
