1985–86 Washington Huskies Men's Basketball Team
The 1985–86 Washington Huskies men's basketball team represented the University of Washington for the 1985–86 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Led by first-year head coach Andy Russo, the Huskies were members of the Pacific-10 Conference and played their home games on campus at Hec Edmundson Pavilion in Seattle, Washington. The Huskies were overall in the regular season and in conference play, runner-up in the standings, a game behind champion Arizona. There was no conference tournament this season; it debuted the following year. Washington went to the 64-team NCAA tournament for the third consecutive year. Seeded twelfth in the Midwest regional, they lost to Michigan State in the first round in Dayton, Ohio. Andy Russo
Andy Russo (born May 26, 1948) was a college basketball coach at Louisiana Tech and at Washington. He compiled a 60–61 record through four seasons at Washington, and resigned at the end of the 1988-89 season after he led the Huskies to a pair of NCAA post season appearances and one NIT tournament during his tenure. Marv Harshman
Marvel Keith Harshman (October 4, 1917 – April 12, 2013) was a college basketball coach, a head coach for forty years in the state of Washington at Pacific Lutheran University, Washington State University, and the University of Washington. Early years Born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Harshman moved to the Pacific Northwest as a child and graduated from Lake Stevens High School in Lake Stevens, Washington, north of Seattle. He attended Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, where he lettered thirteen times in four sports and graduated in 1942. UD Arena
University of Dayton Arena (commonly known as UD Arena) is a 13,409-seat multi-purpose arena located in Dayton, Ohio. The arena opened in 1969. It is home to the University of Dayton Flyers basketball teams. From 2001 to 2010, the facility hosted the annual "play-in" game in the NCAA men's basketball tournament (officially the "opening round" game) which featured the teams rated 64th and 65th in the tournament field. Beginning in 2011, when the tournament expanded to four opening-round games, the arena continued to host all "first four" games. Overall, the arena has hosted more men's NCAA Division I basketball tournament games than any other venue. The playing court is known as Blackburn Court, named after historic UD coach Tom Blackburn. The 1984–85 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs basketball team represented Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana for the 1984–85 season. Although other players on the team as well as head coach Andy Russo were well in the spotlight, the real star of the show for the Bulldogs that season was Karl Malone. Malone would lead the Bulldogs to their best season to date in program history as well as earning himself All-American honors. Following the season, Malone would enter the NBA draft, being selected 13th overall by the Utah Jazz. Spending the majority of his career with Utah, Malone would be named an NBA All-Star fourteen times, NBA Most Valuable Player twice, and be inducted into the Basketball Hall of fame in 2010.
