1985–86 Chicago Bulls Season
The 1985–86 Chicago Bulls season was the 20th season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA). During the offseason, they acquired forward Charles Oakley from the Cleveland Cavaliers, veteran guard George Gervin from the San Antonio Spurs and signed free agent guards Kyle Macy and John Paxson. The season was a near disaster as Michael Jordan was lost for much of the regular season due to a broken foot. Despite the injury to Jordan, the team managed to qualify for the NBA Playoffs. Offseason NBA Draft The 1985 NBA Draft took place on June 18, 1985. It was also the first NBA Draft of the "Lottery" era. Stan Albeck
Charles Stanley Albeck (May 17, 1931 – March 25, 2021) was an American professional basketball coach. Albeck coached for several teams in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and National Basketball Association (NBA), including the Denver Rockets, the San Diego Conquistadors, (often subbing for an absent Wilt Chamberlain), the Cleveland Cavaliers, the San Antonio Spurs, the New Jersey Nets, and the Chicago Bulls. John Paxson
John MacBeth Paxson (born September 29, 1960) is an American basketball administrator and former player who was vice president of basketball operations for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 2009 to 2020. He was their general manager from 2003 to 2009. Paxson played eleven NBA seasons for the San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls, winning three championships as a member of the Bulls. He was an All-American college player at the University of Notre Dame. High school career Paxson attended Archbishop Alter High School in Kettering, Ohio, following in the footsteps of his elder brother, Jim, who would go on to a star career at the University of Dayton, and, later, in the NBA, as a member of the Portland Trail Blazers. Murray Arnold
Murray Arnold (March 4, 1938 – November 13, 2012) was an American basketball coach, best remembered for his college coaching career at Chattanooga, Western Kentucky and Stetson. He also spent two seasons from 1991 coaching the Perth Wildcats of Australia's National Basketball League. In 1991, he led them to a championship. Adrian Branch
Adrian Francis Branch (born November 17, 1963) is a retired American professional basketball player. A 6'7" small forward out of DeMatha High School, Branch starred at the University of Maryland from 1981 to 1985. He was an All-ACC second team selection twice. In 1984 Branch led the Terrapins to the ACC Championship. He finished his career at Maryland as their second all-time leading scorer. In 2004, Branch was honored at the ACC Tournament as an "ACC Legend." Branch was drafted into the NBA in the second round by the Chicago Bulls in 1985. Aubrey Sherrod
Aubrey D. Sherrod (born November 6, 1962) is an American former professional basketball player. A left-handed shooting guard, he was considered one of the top prospects of his class, and was selected as MVP of the 1981 McDonald's All-American Game. He then decided to stay in his hometown to play college basketball, and committed to Wichita State. After 4 years he was selected in the second round of the 1985 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls, but was waived before the start of the season and had a short professional career in the CBA and in Australia.
